Blood when they poop?

Hi guys this is a weird question but is anyone else seeing blood after they poop. Im not constipated but it hurts to poop and then there is blood, anyone else?

Re: Blood when they poop?

  • Hemorrhoids or anal fissures. Both cause bleeding and pain. I use prep h suppositories and tucks.

  • Are you talking little blood spots on the toilet paper or actually seeing blood in the toilet bowl?

  • It could be any of the pp suggestions, but (and this is a total TMI overshare - so I'M SORRY!) but I get this when I'm really, really stressed out. I've been through a ton of testing, and I have a "beautiful" colon, so thats nice. (The body's response to stress is an insane thing...)

You should definitely talk to your dr about it though, particularly if the blood is not bright red (e.g., a dark, older blood color).

  • Sounds like internal hemorrhoids. Happened to me about 3 weeks ago. Scared me because if the bright red blood and having had a loss my previous pregnancy. drink lots of water.
  • Its bright red blood and today there was a lot of it! I have also been through a lot of tests in the past and have a nice colon.
  • Sounds like either internal or fissures, your poop might be hard or just big.  I have gotten those since college and your booty just needs some TLC.  I like the Prep H suppositories because they have the active ingredients of the tube, but I feel like it kinda greases things up a bit with the cocoa butter (I think that is the ingredient), so poop comes out easier.  I've only had to use about 3 or so all pregnancy.  Tucks pads also sooth the anus region, and make it less uncomfortable, plus help clean you better so you can heal.

That just sounds so gross, sorry if its too much!!!
  • Happens to me with internal hemorrhoids.  Try taking some Colace for a few days to soften things up.  Drink lots of water too!  Tucks also makes a cream if it starts to hurt/itch.

  • I am having this, too. After a severe tear with my last pregnancy I am not taking any chances and seeing the colon-rectal specialist on Monday.

  • Thanks for the info everyone!
  • I get this off and on too, but mine started pre-pregnancy. I checked with my OB who thinks it's a fissure but stated they wouldn't do anything now. He recommended I see a cool-rectal dr. after baby arrives. If it's bright red and you know it's from the skin it's superficial this nothing internal aka less to worry about. Hope this helps.
  • My husband had hemorrhoids several years ago. We rushed him to the ER because the toilet bowl had a fair amount of blood in it. They said to use prep h and sits bath salts. It can't hurt to mention it to your OB though.

  • My doc says its totally normal and that it is an unfortunate side affect of being slightly or fully constipated during pregnancy. Your body holds onto food longer than normal to retain more nutrients which is why you poo less and it can be harder and bigger than normal.  I started drinking an herbal tea you can get at Whole Foods called Smooth Move that OB ok'd.  It will def make you go (and kind of a lot) but its pain and blood free!  I drink it at night and usually go first thing in the AM.  I also use it sparingly and dilute it as much as possible to up my water intake.  Hope this helps!

  • I have this same thing..its anal fissures for me.  Definitely has gotten worse since I've been pregnant.  I have to a double wipe to make sure its not coming from somewhere else.
