STM+: does swing direction matter?

Hi all,

Just finished watching happiest baby on the block DVD and they had some old school baby swings that swing forward and back. All the ones I've found in store, like Fischer price, swing from left to right. Does it matter? One pendulum direction better than the other? Thx.

Re: STM+: does swing direction matter?

  • Just saw this on the snugamonkey pictures...seat can be rotated to change swing direction :)

  • I had the old school up and down and DD loved her swing. Some nights it was the only thing that would get her to sleep.... so I don't think it matters.

Having said that, I need a second swing anyway now that we have an extra floor in the house so I'm getting one that swings both up and down + side to side. Just cause...not that it's necessary!
  • Switching topic a little bit, I was looking at FP brand snuga-monkey, bunny, puppy line. It seems through amazon reviews that people really love them, or they hate them because the motor craps out after 3 months of use. Anybody have stories on this or other suggestions?

  • I should specify I'm talking about the "cradle n swing"

  • We have the snuggamonkey one (I think... It's whichever one you can plug in), and we used it ALL the time. So much that we got an extra for our house and another for my parents' house. One of them died after about 9 months, but that was with crazy daily use. C napped in hers until she was
1 (crazy, I know), and we went through a short phase where she slept in it over night. So it was getting a ton of use. When it died, they mailed us a new motor and it was good as new. Highly recommend them, obviously. :)

We loved our snugabunny! With how much use it got it probably should have died and I would have absolutely thought we got our money's worth but it didn't. As far as swing direction I don't think it makes a bit of difference. Think of your own movement. Baby is probably calmed when you are moving and they, in turn, go to sleep or move less....but it isn't only calming to them when you shuffle sideways! Movement in general soothes them. That's one of the many reasons I think that mamaroo is such a huge waste of money. Babies really don't need 8 movement patterns on a swing! I doubt there is a baby in history that has refused to sleep unless moving in a figure-8 pattern! Eta: the only thing I will say about the snugabunny that is something to consider is that it is huge. If you are in a tight space that could be a concern. If not I would highly recommend!
  • We had a fisher price papasan swing and it could swing in both directions.  He preferred it side to side.

  • We registered for and received the Snugabunny - so glad to hear good reviews from you guys!! It is quite large but I'm excited to use it - super cute, has several neat settings, go both directions.... I'd nap in it ;)

  • Mine is new as of 2011 and it swings backward and forward. There isn't an option to swing side to side. Not sure it matters. It soothed DS.
