Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

The flu!

Well. The flu has struck us. My husband got sick over the weekend from the same thing his office mate was suffering from. Today MIL called and said LO's temp was 103. So MH took her to the doc and she did a flu swab that came back positive. So doc figured if she has the flu, chances are hubby has it too. Doc wrote Rx was LO, MH, and me (I'm not sick. (Yet.)) for Tamiflu. LO has DS and a heart defect and the side affects make me nervous. Plus MH forgot to let doc know that I'm still breastfeeding. Has any else had any experience with Tamiflu and any side affects?

Re: The flu!

  • I can't answer your question, but I hope LO gets better quickly and you get an answer.

  • LO was sick last year with the flu at 7 months and we gave him Tamiflu. It made a huge difference in recovery time, he was diagnosed on Friday and well enough to return to daycare on Monday. We didn't notice any side effects. Biggest problem we had was getting LO to take the contents of the syringe (he didn't like the taste of the medicine very much).
  • Good luck! Hope everyone gets better quickly!

  • Our 22 month old had the flu last week. She tested positive on Friday and was still feeling great. Doctor gave us Tamiflu. Saturday was a rough day and then other then a runny nose and cough she was fine by sunday/Monday.

We put her Tamiflu in her Sippy with Pedialyte and she drank every last drop.

Hope you little one feels better!
