HELP? How to unplug a Montgomery gland on areola

I was wondering if any has had any experience with this.  I went to my dr today as nursing on my left side has been painful since yesterday.  Then I realized that I had a bump on the side of my nipple in the areola and that is what was causing the discomfort.  Dr. said it was a plugged or inflamed Montgomery gland.  The small bumps that surround your nipple area that secrete oils that help lube your nipple to prevent drying and cracking.  I have one of those that is plugged.  She says to use warm compress on it.  I have had plugged ducts before and this is far more painful for me.  It is very painful for my daughter to nurse on.  I have been thru cracked nipples and usually for me with that it's just the inital latch that is painful, but this is painful through the whole nursing session.  I tried doing the football hold tonight verse the cross-cradle position.  Might have been a little better, but still very painful.  My dr said if I can't get it unplugged that she would have to lance it and she doesn't want to have to do that as it might mean the end of breasfeeding.  (On that breast I am assuming I guess).  I was just wondering if anyone else had some good tips for me to relieve this issue asap as it's quite painful and I really really want to continue breastfeeding.  My daughter is 7 months old and I hope to continue breastfeeding for at least 1 year and beyond if possible.

  • As i understand it heat is the best thing for them but also as painful as it is to massage and still pump as often as you can stand it. You want to work out and clear the clog
