3rd Trimester

Gestational Diabetes

I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. I'm currently 28 1/2 weeks. I was really upset at first, met with the nurse today at the diabetes center and I feel a little more better. Just have to really watch what I eat now, and I have to test four times aday. Just a little bump in the road.

Re: Gestational Diabetes

  • I had with my first and now second pregnancy. My diabetic clinic tells me to eat way too many carbs. The daily serving is equivalent to 16 slices of bread a day. Ridiculous.

  • Wow they tell you to eat too many?! That's crazy. Mine just taught me how to limit my carb intake and make the right choices. I feel like it was almost similar to weight watchers points but in carb version instead. How are you doing with it? I'm a FTM I was really shocked about it but I just have to be more careful now.
  • I'm a low carber when not pregnant. These people can kiss my ass! I will be doing it my way!
  • I was dx for gdm at 28 weeks too; my blood sugar was so high that they have to put me on insulin ; so really watch what you eat; you may want to meet with a dietician to go over food choice; they have strict blood sugar level they want you to maintain; j found food choices made a different . I am checking blood sugar 6-7x a day and have to check urine ketone daily;
  • I was diagnosed around 27-28weeks. I had to start insulin right away before bed because my fasting number was super high. Otherwise, I can basically diet control. I have found that I can't have cereal, oatmeal, or even be very flexible with carbs. That said, I'm closing in on 39 weeks, and the last couple of weeks have gotten easier-I can be more flexible with my carbs than before.

  • It's been almost a week and my numbers are pretty good. Also my diet is getting easier day by day, I like to think of it as a kick start bc I could t wait to diet and exercise after the baby is born.
