Unisom/B6

Anyone taking a combo of B6 and Unisom for help with nausea?  At the recommendation of my doctor I've tried it for the last couple of nights (25 mg of B6 in the morning and 25 mg of B6 plus 1/2 a Unisom tablet at night) and it seems to help the nausea the next day.  Only problem is I feel like a walking zombie during the day -- like head in a fog kind of tired.  Anyone else experienced this?  Obviously Unisom is a sleeping pill, but I was pretty surprised that I'd feel the effects so long into the next day.  What a lovely choice - pukey or sleepy (the lesser known dwarfs).

Re: Unisom/B6

  • I'm taking 25mg of B6 at night without the Unisom (because the B6 doesn't keep me up.) Maybe try skipping the Unisom tonight and see if you feel better?

Yeah, the B6 by itself didn't seem to be doing much for me.

  • The drowsiness is a common side effect of this class of antihistamines. I personally have not tried Unisom but when I have used Benadryl in the past, I also get the fogginess in the morning. Usually with the antihistamines, your body will get used to the drowsiness. It should improve over time. One recommendation would be to allow yourself more time to sleep. If it continues to bother you, you should discuss it with your doctor to see if your nausea is worth the AM sedation or if there are alternative options.

Thanks.  It would be great if my body would acclimate to the drowsiness.  It really does seem to help w/ the nausea.

  • I'm doing the prescription version of this combo, Diclegis. I like it better because it is a delayed capsule. It still makes me sleepy but not as sleepy as taking the regular dose. I guess it spreads it out throughout the day.

I take the Unisom/B6 combo too but ran into an add for Diclegis today.  I was debating asking my Dr tomorrow about a rx.  Do you think it worked better than the Unisom and B6?  I'm still feeling fairly gross even on the Unisom/B6 combo.  :P

  • The fogginess seems to wear off by the early afternoon.  I could handle being tired, but I seriously felt like my head was in a fog - like I probably shouldn't be operating heavy machinery!  But adding the Unisom in did make it possible for me to eat normal meals today so there's that . . .
