Moms to be

Re: Moms to be

  • Hi all! I'm Lexi. I live in the south hills. I am due August 6. I have my 16 week doctors appointment tomorrow, so I'm always nervously excited for those. Hope you all are feeling well and I look forward to talking with you all!
  • Casey - Thanks for all the tips on the Maternity clothes and the coupon at Kohls.  I'm a coupon and sale kind of girl.  :)

Hi Starrylyn - Congrats to you!  I've been living in leggings and comfy shirts too!  I'm a couple weeks behind you (due in very early Sept.) and have just ever so slightly started to notice a difference with my belly.  My jeans aren't quite as comfortable as they used to be anymore so if I don't need to wear them right now I don't.

Hi Lexi - Congrats to you as well!  Hope your 16 week appointment goes well today!  I have my 12 week appointment on Thursday this week.  I understand feeling nervously excited for those - that's how I get.  :)

  • @allison7 I went to the Galleria in Mt Lebanon yesterday. They have a Pea in the Pod store there. The clothes were cute, but expensive. One pair of jeans I tried on was $210. They did feel great, though. For the most part, I didn't think their stuff was any nicer than what I could get at Target. I might splurge on a pair of jeans once I'm a little further along, although I'll be pregnant in the summer and spring and probably won't feel like wearing jeans. I'm trying not to buy too much right now because this winter might actually end one of these days lol.
  • @Starrylyn I got a pair of Pea in the Pod dress pants at the Macy's in Ross Park on sale. They are really nice, but not any nicer than the ones that I ordered from the Gap. I thought about riding over to the Galleria, but I haven't been in the mood for that with this weather!! I figure once we get into the spring I will just look for a couple of dresses at Target. I got one dress and one skirt on sale already at Target. I am a little worried about being due in August since I will be pregnant during the hottest times of the year (although today a heat wave sounds wonderful). I thought dresses will be the most comfortable.

  • @Allison7 I'm with you on being worried about being pregnant at the hottest times of the year.  I'm due early September.  I had the same thought that dresses might be the most comfortable.  I just bought 3 online at Target on clearance.  I also just found out that Babies R Us also sells Maternity clothes.  I haven't been to the store in person yet, but saw that they offered them online.  Some of the clothes they have are cute and the prices seem pretty reasonable.  Just another place to look.  I agree that finding maternity clothes in Pittsburgh doesn't seem easy.

    Hi girls,

I'm due with my second daughter in June. We used to live in Wexford but are now in Robinson/Carnegie. I work full time but would love to meet up with other moms when I can! Our daughter will be 18 months when #2 is born so 2 under 2 is scaring the crap out of me and I'm sure that I will need all of the distractions that I can get. Oh and we are the proud parents of 2 beagles as well. Chester is 4 (named after the Pirate pierogies) and Sparky is 3

  • @blk1978  Hi!  Congrats on your second little girl.  That's exciting!  Your beagles sound cute as well - love their names!
  • Are any of you ladies planning on taking any type of child birth classes?  I've contemplated the idea but not sure what kind I would want to go to.

I'm planning to deliver at West Penn right now because that's where my doctors go.  I want to do the hospital tour though and make sure I am going to feel comfortable there.  I do like my doctors a lot so far.

Britt - Do you like the Midwives at Magee?  I thought about looking into them at one point but haven't yet.
We're delivering at West Penn, and have been taking the classes. So far I've really liked them, and the hospital tour was really helpful!

  • Congratulations to all the new ladies who posted. Not sure if anyone has any advice but I thought I'd check. Has anyone flown yet while pregnant? Tsa website says body scans are ok while pregnant. I also read from various blogs that not a lot of research had been done and you can ask to skip the body scanners and be searched. Any advice or experience? Thank you ladies. Hope you are all having a good week!
  • @sandbridge1030  Good to hear that you are liking the classes you have been taking at West Penn!  We are taking the hospital tour in late April but haven't signed up for any other classes yet.  What OBGYN practice are you going to?  Congrats on your baby!  Do you know if you are having a boy or girl or are you leaving it a surprise?
  • @Kristin32407 Thank you! We are having a little girl!  How about you?

My OBGYN is Seasons based in McMurray. I really love them!  We've taken the Child Care Comprehensive (which is all about labor/delivery), Baby Care, Breastfeeding, and will be taking Infant CPR as well. All of the classes have been really helpful so far.

I was supposed to fly this month, but it was cancelled due to weather. I will be flying next month. I do plan to skip the body scan and request to be searched. When I was going to fly this month I wasn't really showing, but it will be more noticeable next month, so I don't think there will be any issues. I am going to arrive at the airport a bit earlier than I normally would though because the searches do take longer.

  • @sandbridge1030  Aww!  That's so exciting!  We haven't been able to find out yet what we are having.  I'm due in early September so we still have a couple more weeks to go before we get to do the anatomy ultrasound.  We did get to do a quick ultrasound at our last visit though and it was amazing to see our little baby moving around.

I also go to Seasons!  I see them in their Cranberry office.  So far I have had both Dr.Alvarado and Dr.Lebovitz and have really liked them both.  I'm so glad to hear you love them!

All of those classes definitely sound like they would be helpful and worthwhile to take.  I'll have to look into them more.

  • Just wondering... but have any of you ladies made a birth plan?  Were your doctors open to discussing it with you and listening to your wants/needs?  I know that no birth goes according to plan and that anything can happen, but I think I'd feel more comfortable having one.  There are definitely certain procedures I'd like to avoid at all costs unless lives become dependent on it.
  • @kristin

Thanks for reminding me! I forgot that the midwives gave me an outline to make up a birth plan. I'm under no illusion that things will go exactly according to plan but I like the idea that my wants/needs will atleast be known.

  • Anyone else find it somewhat difficult to communicate on here? I'm in a private fb group with some other pregnant women and it's a lot easier to talk and ask questions, etc. If anyone would be interested I could set one up for us.
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @Brittalyse - No problem!

I think the Facebook idea would make things easier! If you want to set up a group, I would definitely like to join it.
  • Thank you Allison! ! I skipped the scan in Pittsburgh. The lady was really nice about it. She said these newer scans are ok but the older ones she wouldn't let her daughter. I still want to play it safe.

I don't always know when there are new posts are up on here. Let me know if anyone sets up something new. It is nice having others to talk to.
  • I tried setting up a secret FB group but I need to add someone when I create it or it won't let me make it.
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • You can add me. Do you need my email address to do so?
  • Hello fellow yinzers. Soon to be mom of 3, I've delivered at both West Penn as well as Magee. Didn't have complaints over either. I also use Magee Womancare Assoc, and I pretty much like all the doctors associated with that practice (there will be one I request to not see again) but never had any other issues.

Good luck to everyone and healthy happy babies to all.

  • Hi! I'm due June 8th with my first kiddo.  We haven't found out the gender, because I like surprises (most of the time...)

My husband and I live in the South Hills (technically Washington County), and we will be delivering at St. Clair.  We just took the Childbirth Preparation class, and it's definitely getting more real :)

I'm looking forward to connecting with some moms in the area!
  • anyone else going to the all day child birth class at forbes in april?

  • I will be a first time mom in December. The dad is super excited. Im alittle scared but happy. I feel bad tho I asked him not to tell his family for a few weeks. I just don't want to tell they too early. Am I wrong for this?
  • Welcome ginger! I don't think you are wrong at all. We didn't tell anyone besides my mom and sister (bc I own a business with them and it would have been hard to hide) until 13 weeks. Even my husbands immediate family didn't know.

  • Welcome!  I'm due in September with my 2nd. :) I have a 21 month old daughter.

I also live in the north, Cranberry Township.  If you need a photographer for your newborn photos look me up:  https://www.stephanielaura.photography/

I also offer family, child, and maternity.

    Thanks!
  • Hello ladies!  My husband and I are expecting our first in early October and couldn't be more excited.  We currently live in Cleveland but will be relocating to Pittsburgh in early August.  I was actually born at Magee (and then my family moved out of state when I was six weeks old) so I am kind of hoping to have this baby there to continue the tradition.  I hope to be able to transfer my care to the midwives there...  I need to call and figure that out soon!

I will definitely be looking for mommy groups and activities in the fall!  It is going to be hard moving to a new city and not knowing anyone right as I face this major life change.
