Break in sleep habit and now won't sleep in her crib

My daughter is 2.5  She has always been a great sleeper. Last week she refused to lay in her crib for nap or night. We tried letting her cry it out for 2 days and then took her to the doctor thinking that something was wrong.  Sure enough, she had a double ear infection which was likely hurting when she went down in her crib.  The doctor prescribed an antibiotic and told us to let her sleep with us because it was more important for her to sleep and get better then to have her in her crib if she was going to stand and scream for 3-5 hours.  We let her sleep with us 4 days.  Last night we put her back in her crib and she stood crying for 4 hours.  Then DH went in and she insisted "I stay momma".  Then I went in and slept in a sleeping bag on her floor.  My daughter stood in her crib for 2 hours watching me sleep but still refused to lie down.  On top of all of this she has become incredibly clingy.  She must be held and needs to be with momma at all times.  How do I break this?  How do I get her back in her crib?  Thanks for your help!

  • Are you sure the infection cleared up?  Sometimes the fluid that sticks around can be very bothersome.  My DS had constant fluid from ear infections that never went away until he got tubes.
If you're sure she isn't in pain then I'd pick a plan and stick to it.  I probably wouldn't sleep in her room but set up clear boundaries and make sure she understands them.  Talk about them during the day.  Maybe consider a new bedtime lovey/toy?  Sorry I'm not more help.

  • I will try that, thanks.  Maybe I will take her back to the Dr to make sure the fluid is cleared up.  This is very uncharacteristic of her.
