I love Elwood! But Reese Witherspoon played Elle Woods in Legally Blonde. Ellie is my favorite nick name for a girl. But my dad named his puppy Elcey and her nn is Ellie. I don't think I would name my baby after a puppy.
Ellie is our daughter's nickname We liked Lily until my stepdad named his puppy that! :P
One of my very favorite girl names is Betsy, but my in-laws have an awful, fat, disgusting rat terrier named Bitsy, so that's out. :-q Not to mention that my SMIL is OBSESSED with her stupid dog playing with Caleb. He's three months old, I'm not letting your nasty, unpredictable dog get near my baby. I'm sure if we had a daughter and named her Betsy, the comparisons between here and the dog would never end... I imagine lots of "Bitsy and Betsy are best friends!" "Aww, our baby is Bitsy and our grandbaby is Betsy! Twins!" or weird stuff like that. My SMIL is creepy that way.
So I'll probably get flamed for this but whatever. We were going to name LO Alistair. It's Irish and means "defender of the people." It came from a character on a video game lol. I wasn't in love with it and I found it in a baby name book to just look at it. Well a nickname of Alistair was Alec. So I told DH if we named the baby Alistair his nickname could be Alec. DH said "well why don't we just name him Alec?" Alec still means "defender of the people" so I love it.

We did name our son Alastair ( Scottish spelling) we may call him Alec also.
I didn't realize it was flame worthy maybe it should have been my FFFC.
ETA We didn't get it from a video game. It's a name DH liked. It's the Scottish version of Alexander. DH lineage is Scottish and he loves roman history.

I don't mind the name. When we were entertaining the idea of naming him that it actually grew on me. But I made the mistake of telling people what we were thinking and I got a bunch of disgusted looks that made me want to throat punch them. It really brings you down when you can tell people hate the name you like. Next time I'm keeping it a secret. I love the name Alec except for the fact that everyone tries to call him Alex or asks, "Did you name him after Alec Baldwin?" Really?
And since the name has meaning for you guys, go for it! I really wanted a name that had meaning to us but I didn't want a super common name, and I didn't want an out landish name for him either. I though Alec was a happy medium.
@HBirdie Thank you. And yes, the Harry Potter connection helped DH sell me on the name.
@smithaz602 We didn't tell anyone his name beforehand. We had a few names that we liked and we weren't sure which ones we were going to use. We decided in the hospital after he was born.
People hate it. But once it's on the birth certificate they usually don't say much.
BTW. Your Alec is a cutie. I love your siggy pic.
My girls are named Bennett Julianne and Reese Marie, so we love "boyish" first names and feminine middle names. The name board really laid into me for Bennett, but whatever. For a girl I also like the name Kaliyah and for a boy I like Cason. If LO2 was a boy the name would have been Cason or Landon.
Okay here it goes. I love the name Areola for a girl's name. I would absolutely never ever ever use it, it's just so pretty sounding. I weird myself out.
I love the name Aurelia, but wouldn't use it because it's too close to areola. I got you.
My guilty pleasure names are River, Santiago and wilder for a boy and Arizona or Azure for a girl. A lot of the names you all have posted are just great names! It's enough to give a girl baby rabies.

Me toooooo! I realized that after we were talking about naming him that.
Our boy name was Ronan. And I named DD2 Tess, which I got crap for on the BNB about how people don't like nicknames as full names.
