*****making a home smonday*****

Well, as I mentioned in my DDF, I've been nesting my way through grief. I've organized both bathroom sinks, donated 3 lawn bags of old clothes to charity, and 3 giant tote bags of books.

However, there must be hope left in me because, I got rid of all that shit but, kept all my nursing bras, tops, and maternity clothes.

So the QOTW: how often do you purge your closet ?

I tend to get rid of a few items every season. I haven't done a massive overhaul like this in a long long time.

  • Every few years... I don't buy clothes nearly as often as I used to... Have not gotten rid of a single item of DD's lifetime wardrobe... JIC! Hubs has been begging me to, but I'm like, there is no way we will have any money for clothes so you'll thank me later and better hope we have a girl when we come out of this!

I usually purge when the seasons are changing. So when summer rolls around, you know, around July in MN  ~X(, I usually sort through all my summer clothes and donate the stuff I know I won't wear anymore.

I actually JUST did my first mini-purge of all the baby-3T clothes I have kept (15ish rubbermaid containers) about 3 weeks ago. I managed to donate 1 whole container's worth. I'm fairly certain we only make girls, so I'm hanging onto all that stuff for now.

  • We moved to a new house last year so I used that as a chance to clean out my closets. Otherwise, I don't regularly do it. I have a good friend who has a baby younger than jeffrey so I have been giving her the clothes he has outgrown. We have gotten hand me down clothes from a few friends so I feel it is good karma to pass them on.
  • We've moved a lot over the years so purging pretty regularly, I also tend to do small purges every season but there are some items that I have never worn but never discarded either!
    Me: 32, DH: 33
    DS #1: April 2010
DS #2: July 2015 (preemie born at 31 weeks) - our little miracle conceived through ART - unexplained secondary infertility/adenomyosis
  • Moving has also encouraged me to purge a few times!  Otherwise, I don't have a good pattern to my purging-just when I get the urge I guess.  I have also passed on many baby items/boy clothes to friends who I knew could use them at the time.  I figure even if we do have another child the gender/seasons might not align...
  • I just did a major purge in December I couldn't get all my stuff to fit so a whole garden size trash bag got donated and another one was in full of rags.  I clean stuff out every couple years in a major way but do little purges with the seasons.

I have all of DS clothing in totes unless it was stained or ruined in some other way when he outgrew it.
    Me DOR amh .64 ng/mL
    DH Brain Cancer

    BFP#2 10/13/11 DC 11/4/11
    BFP#3 12/6/13 Lost 12/29/13
Told IVF is the only option and have not found a clinic that will take me.

  • I really only purge when we move or I am a hormonal mess and the closet makes me angry for some reason. (It's mostly DH that insists he wants shirts and then never wears them because "they don't feel right" but he won't get rid of them either.) So I go in our closet and start throwing all his shit out. My stuff I throw away when there are holes in them.

  • I have been in a purging/ organizing mood lately. It seems when I get emotional/stressed out I try to re-organize the house.  Still a long way to go but getting organized.  Usually at least once a year I purge my closet - I have not gotten rid of anything baby related but finally packed away all baby/maternity stuff and stored in garage.

  • I tend to purge during a new season. When I drag out all of the stuff for the new season I look see what I tend to wear most. If I don' wear something in the first few weeks, I put it in the goodwill bag. We usually don't go to goodwill but twice a year, so if I have any second thoughts, I would pull it back out. But so far that hasn't happened!

  • I purge a few times a year for DH and I. I go by the "if you haven't worn it in a year" rule. For DD I keep a Rubbermaid tote in her closet and as she outgrows things I toss them in there.  I have two cousins right behind DD in size so most of her clothes go straight to them.

  • Every couple of years. I did a big one a few months ago of DS's stuff but I need to go through mine and DH's. Our closet is ridiculous.

We're considering switching rooms with DS. We're in a 2 bedroom and the master would fit DS's bed clothes and all of his toys with room to play. And the master is warmer than DS's room. We always said if we had a 2nd kid in this condo we would give the kids the master and take the small room. Probably just wishful thinking on my part.
