Honda CRV for Two Kids -- Enough Room?

Hi all,

We need a new car and are interested in a small SUV which has enough space for two kids and all of the equipment that goes with them.  We are very interested in hearing feedback from parents with two kids who have a Honda CRV, and to hear if they have any regrets about buying the car.  TIA!

  • This is not the answer you are looking for but with 2u2 we have a minivan and I love it! The main advantage that you will not get with an SUV is the power sliding doors. While trying to juggle an infantseat and a toddler it's awesome to be a bit more hands free. I have the Toyota sienna and it's awesome. It also has way more storage space than an SUV. We have a gigantic double stroller that we store in the van, plus plenty of storage when we travel. Just wanted to give you something to think about.

  • We have a CRV with 3 kids and have managed it for over a year!  For 2 kids it was perfect.  We had one seat behind the driver, one behind the passenger, both rear facing for a while.  DS had a Britax Marathon, and DD#1 had a Radian.  When we had #3, we swapped out DS's Marathon for another Radian and with the Graco Snugride  then eventually another Radian, all 3 seats fit across the back.  We never had any problems fitting our gear (and still don't really with 3 kids!)  I do recommend the Radian car seats - even with 2 kids.  That way, you still can fit another person in the car between the seats.

We are planning on getting a Minivan soon.  For 3 kids it is just so tight.  And my older ones are wanting playdates, etc, so we would love to have more room to bring some other kids with us.  But we are selling DH's Camry, he will take the CRV and I will get the minivan.  I will be happy to be able to drive the CRV still - I LOVE my car!!!!

  • @laura1 that is exactly what I wanted to hear.  We also have a Camry (DH) and a CRV (my car).  LO2 will arrive in May and I'm not so much concerned about the car seats as I am about the stroller(s).

Which stroller did you use that fit well in the trunk?  I'm leaning towards the Contours Options/Optima but I'm afraid that will take up most of my trunk.  I'll still have the upper half of the trunk but was the bottom half filled up with just a stroller?

Since you touched on carseats.  Is it possible to get 1 car seat behind the passenger and the infant car seat in the middle?

  • We have a Bumbleride Indie Twin, so the trunk is pretty much full of that stroller when we take it.  If I go shopping, I just pile the stuff around it.  When we went on vacation, we would bring the used Maclaren Twin Techno that I bought and it folded up so small that I could fit it in the space between the front and back seats on the floor (under DS's feet when he turned FF).

For car seats, we did one behind driver and one behind passenger - I didn't want them next to each other because I didn't want DS (older one)  messing with the baby, like trying to feed her snacks or take away her binkie.  I am sure you could fit one behind passenger and one in the middle though - like I said, we have 3 in a row now!

Good luck!  I found a CRV just fine for 2 kids (and even for 3).  :)

  • It does not wrk for us. We have a CRV, and it feels so compact. I could never jump back back there while dh was driving to give bottles or comfort ds2. My double its in the back, but my double revolution is a pain to keep in there. Basically, not much fits and we are planning for three. It's so funny, because I am not a mini van girl, but after this and seeng the awesome features... I am definitely willing to test drive.

We have a CRV and 2 kids. We had the car long before the kids, so we didn't buy it for them but it has worked out so far. We can even bring our dog on occasion. (She prefers to ride shotgun.) We actually sometimes end up with 2 strollers in the back - the Snap N Go for the baby or our jogging stroller for the toddler. I've had to sit in the back between them on occasion and while it's not the most comfortable to get into the middle (DD1 has a large RF car seat), it is doable.
