High-Risk Pregnancy

If it's not one thing it's another...

I just need to get this out there.

I introduced myself awhile ago. I am high risk due to crohns disease and today I am 9 weeks and 2 days along.

Last night I found out my insurance has denied to refill my perscription for lialda. I still had 5 refills left but I guess the insurance company wants to make sure with my Dr that i need it. I also seem to be flaring. It's to the point now that I am feeling like I may be causing serious harm to the fetus. I'm feeling really down today and tomorrow I'll have to call both the ob and the gi.

it doesn't help that at 7 weeks I started bleeding and cramping. I was told I had a threatened miscarriage. It seems the little one has pulled through and is maybe growing naturally (i was never brought in for another ultrasound to check growth so I'm just guessing)...it just sucks. :(

I'm feeling pretty down today sorry

  • Thanks ladies for the support. I'm feeling a little better today, really tired though.

@quinncat I also get remicaid infusions double dose every 7 weeks. I'm about 3 weeks out from my last infusion. I am also supposed to be taking 6mp but after I started bleeding I stopped due to the risk of miscarraige(i think I need to try a different med) I have a hard time getting in to see my GI and I'm not due to see him again until june.

My main worry is if I don't stop flaring I'll become anemic and dehydrated, I'm also not consuming as many calories as I was before. I get off at 2pm today so I plan on making all my calls around then (ob, gi, and I also have to call my insurance company) I'm just so frustraited with myself right now.

  • Alright i called both my Dr's today.

My GI was very unhappy with my ob. He was very upset I was told to come off 6mp which has likely caused this flare. But since I have stopped it he has put in with the pharmacy a perscription for sepositories as well as my lialda again. I am also considering in 3 and a half weeks when I enter second trimester starting 6mp again.

I go in and see a midwife tomorrow to make sure i am not dehydrated or anemic. I will also begin the conversation of when i enter second tri i would like to begin my low dose of 6mp again.

I guess we will see how things go from here...

  • @suburbsmrs thanks. I got ahold of my gi and he put in a perscription for lialda. I'm not sure what happened with my insurance but when he did that it was pretty easy to pickup. He also put in for some enemas to do at night. So hopefully that'll stop the flare. It's hard to get in to see him but he at least got back to me over the phone pretty quickly. It's only him in his office (there may be another one but I never see them) he's only in office 2 days a week and runs a clinic the other 3 days. I also think he's busy because he has a lot of low income patients and is one of the only gi in my area that helps low income.

I saw a midwife in my ob office today. We discussed the medicine in question at length and it was a pretty intense discussion. She said based on her information and the drug being a class d she can not recommend i consider going back on it however if i can get in and talk with my gi and get the whole scope of information (such as I'm on a low dose and he's had X amount of pregnant patients and they've been fine ect). She also said I can be on a low dose of prednisone my entire pregnancy so I guess there is that option.

Also based on the intensity of the flare and being a class d she has suggested I do the genetic screen at the hospital. This screen includes an ultrasound and bloodwork and she said i can do an in office neural tube screen as well (just bloodwork) she also wants me to do an ultrasound at 18 weeks which will take a very close look at every organ and see if there are any birth defects. I felt like I was going to cry by the time I left. I'm feeling very overwhelmed right now but at the same time I'm feeling ok because at least if there is something to be worried about we will know at least by 18 weeks. *shrug*

  • I'm so sorry you're dealing with this, early pregnancy is really stressful and scary even without all the other stuff. Sounds like your GI has a good plan, hoping that your flare calms down and your insurance is on top of processing the prior auth!

  • So i was running on the assumption my ob was a high risk ob. They talked to me stating they see so many women who have crohns disease and stuff. However i guess there is one high risk OB in the practice and i don't see him. I am considering changing to a specialized high risk one i just have a history with this office so I felt comfortable with them. :P

I'm ready to be in the second trimester. :(
