Intro and March 2014 FET

Hi all!

Hoping to find some others who will be having FET or ET in March, as our first is planned for early March.

We had our first fresh IVF cycle in January.  Both of my tubes are totally non-functional due to scar tissue from surgeries during my childhood and I have PCOS,  We had to jump right into IVF as we have no possibility of conceiving any other way.  We had a good cycle, with 25 eggs retrieved and 21 fertilized.  However, I got moderate OHSS and was feeling soooo sick! I gained over ten pounds in one day, huge ovaries and lots of fluid in the belly, and the doctor felt it was best to wait, so we did a freeze all.  We have 11 day 5 blasts frozen.  We were supposed to have a February FET but that was cancelled too because the OHSS has not resolved very well.

We are feeling so grateful and excited, but the waiting is hard too!  I keep looking at the pictures of the embies from transfer day before it was cancelled, and I'm a little bummed we had cycles cancelled twice.  I don't really know what to expect with a frozen cycle, and I'm just looking for others who will be going through this around the same time. Thanks!

You have a great number of embryos! The FET is a piece of cake compared to a fresh cycle! You will feel soooooo much better. I felt so sick, like you described, during my fresh cycle. But, the FET meds don't have the same effect as the stim meds. You'll be so glad that you waited! Good luck! I'll be having an ET in March, so I'll be right along with you!

Glad to hear that the FET is easier.  The fresh cycle kicked my butt!  I'm still not perfect, but thankfully no longer on Gatorade and whey protein shakes Even the thought makes me want to gag. 

Glad to hear there is normally a group to follow along with.  I'll keep my eye out in February!

Hello and welcome!

I had OHSS in Dec and did a freeze all, as well. I'm prepping for my FET, which will happen on Monday. It is pretty easy. Just estrogen for a few weeks and then PIO for a few days before (they're not as bad as I thought!) 

It was hard for me to wait, too, but it will be so much better for you, as the OHSS gets worse with pregnancy if not resolved.

Thanks Camerabug! The doc did say that the OHSS would get worse...at that point I was feeling so badly I was almost happy not to do the transfer.   I definitely did not want to end up in the hospital or lose our best embies.  I did PIO for the 5 days between ER and our cancelled transfer.  I got myself all anxious about them (especially when I saw the size of the needle!), but not as bad as I thought either.  Good luck with your transfer on Monday!!

Sushinedaisies, good luck with your cycle!  Waiting to find out whether any made it to blast was definitely an anxious wait.  I feel like there's a lot of waiting and not knowing in this whole process. I hope that you are successful and not transferring with me in March!!

Sorry to hear about your OHSS. I had 22 eggs retrieved (only 8 were mature)
And I felt terrible. I had pains in my shoulders when i moved and I guess mine wasn't even that severe because they went through with ET. I too carried Gatorade around and drank it by the liter!! I hope you feel better soon and have a successful FET!

Welcome to the board.  You will find a ton of support here.  I'm glad that you are finally starting to see the light of day behind that OHSS.  It's pretty scary!  I'm sure you will be glad you did a freeze all once you're feeling 100%.  There has been research suggesting that FET's are better anyways because your UTE is a better environment for the embies since you haven't just shocked your body with all the stims.  Good luck with your cycle in March.
