Tylenol use?

I struggle with giving my babies medicine. I rarely give it, and when I do, I always second guess the decision. Aleko has been a crank bucket this week from teething so I finally tried some Tylenol last night. He slept longer and went down easily. Now I'm trying to decide if I want to give it again. He was back to crank master deluxe and short sleep duration after the meds wore off. What would you do? How do you decide? Why am I so weird about giving them stuff that obviously makes them more comfortable?

I am the same way. I only used Tylenol after her shots. For teething I use Hyland's teething tablets which works better than Tylenol. At least it is homeopathic. I would make sure that it is teething that bothers him. Little bumps and redness on his gums, fussing when he is suckin etc. If you do not use it too often Tylenol is OK too IMO. Sleep is important for them too and apparentely your LO needs it

What's this hylands you speak of. Definitely teething, no mistake there.

They sell is in drugstores. They have Hyland's colic tablets, teething tablets and some more I think for ear aches or something. They are tiny tablets that dissolve as soon as you put in your baby's mouth. I am on mobile and do not know how to insert photo so you can look it up. It really works for my LO.

I'm the same way. I'm not exactly sure if my DD is teething or if she's just extra fussy because of the sleep regression that's been happening, thus leaving her more tired during the day (extra fussy). However, I always second guess myself as well.. I've rarely ever taken medicine myself and I like to let my body run it's course when need be rather than taking medicine..but when it comes to my LO, I'm pro-medicine. Yet, I still second guess. I hate it.

I gave it to DS for two or three nights after both sets of shots and it seemed to really help him. As long as it's only occasional and when they really need it, I don't see a problem in making them more comfortable so that they can get their much needed sleep.

I gave LO Tylenol after her 4 month shots. I called the pediatrician first and asked every question I could think of. It really seemed to help her.

She's chewing the heck out of her toys so I know the pain will soon come. I will try every remedy or homeopathic method before giving medicine. I'm not a fan of medicine or really any 'remedy' for me, I'm never one to take medicine. I have a hard time learning and weighing out the pro's and con's.

Tylenol is a drug that alters the body and effects the liver after excessive doses. But I don't know what is determined to be excessive for an infant and I'm sure there aren't many tests to prove either way, as there isn't a mom that would give her child to be the guinea pig of high dosage to see the effects.

I don't know why I got in so much detail. Bottom line, if you are comfortable with it and your baby is not in pain then that's all that matters. I'm sure I will go against everything I just said and give my sick baby any medicine to make her feel better. I just haven't been there yet. Sorry for the book.

This exactly. I don't take medicine myself if I can avoid it but if I am in pain that is messing w my daily activities, I won't make myself suffer so why would I with my LO

I have no problem giving her Tylenol but always hesitate because I still don't feel like I know how to tell when she's in pain. She is truly a happy baby 95% of the time. Even after both sets of shots she slept some and was maybe a little extra fussy but nothing some rocking and comfort nursing couldn't fix.

I love when they're 2 and have all their teeth and can tell if they are in pain or just in a crabby mood.

Be careful with the Hylands Teething tablets. They were recalled a few years ago for inconsistent amounts of Belladonna. It caused seizures and other problems. While its back on the shelves, there are some recent reports of seizure cases from them. While I think its only been a few, it makes me nervous. My doctor didn't recommend them for this reason.

Thanks for the warning. I did not know that. I give it to my LO not often but still!
