Your House/Drop Ins

Is your house currently clean enough if a random person were about to drop in?

My house is 90% of the time.  But not this week.  Then our gas company calls "we're making that visit to fix the pipe in the basement.." (there's nothing wrong, per se, but the city has some new guidelines with the gas pipes/lines in every house, and they're changing every one over for free and fixing the pipes- yeah I dunno WTF I'm talking about or what they're doing).  Anyway, they gave me like a 10 minute warning.

Um, I've been deathly ill this week.  No beuno. They come in my kitchen to turn on my stove after fixed. I seriously just scrambled to clean up my kitchen in 10 minutes.  Awkward!  My house is NOT up to standards this week, as I've laid my butt in bed for most of it. Ugh!  I hate random drop ins.  (FYI, they said last week they would come within the next SIX months).

  • I'm cluttered, too. Clean, but cluttered.  But my kitchen is a mess this week, ugh.
They're still in the basement so I cleaned up a bit more.  But I have a sink of dishes I'm simply not touching.  I did a crazy quick sweep, took out the garbage and cleaned up the splotches on the stove, lol.

I feel a lot better, thanks for asking!  My fever and ear pain are gone. I'm still a little congested, but it's like 75% better.  It's not ALL up in my head like it has been.  That was one of the most brutal colds I've had to date.

  • I feel better knowing I'm not the only one who would have to scramble to clean ;)

  • Well it depends on who was going to drop in.... LMAO yes that is totally how i judge to clean my house.
  • What about the gas company? :P

I don't care much if it's a close friend lol.

No you really don't have to see them again!! They don't know your life!
  • I work FT.  DH works FT.  If my house was immaculate I hope that someone would question my priorities.

Our house is clean enough that I could handle a pop-in visitor.  But DH and I team clean before we are expecting anyone.  If anyone wants to judge me for the state of my house, I'll name many things that are higher on my priority list than keeping a spotless house.  The first ones that come to mind are spending time with DS, relaxing, sex, and sleeping.

  • The dude took off ALL my burners (the plates? whatever they're called, that cover the flames lol) and put them all over my counter, opened my oven and turned that on, then got all up on the floor to look under it.  God I hope that was clean.

he's gone, though.  At least my kitchen is clean now?

It stays generally clean. No dirty dishes but and no clutter. There's definitely dust but its usually clutter free.
You're pretty much banished from this particular thread

  • Oops.  I might be banished too then.  Our apartment is rarely ever cluttered.  With 924 square feet with two adults, one toddler and one dog, if it gets too cluttered I throw stuff away!  Our nanny is home all day and that helps a lot and we have someone come every other week for the actual cleaning part.

But you shouldn't feel bad about not being prepared!  That happens to everyone!

  • I would be embarrassed if someone dropped in unexpected right now. My house is clean but really messy, if you know what I mean.

  • Our house is generally clean but cluttered.  We do deep cleaning each weekend but then things get piled up through the week.  Dishes are done on nightly basis but there always seems to be an over-flowing laundry basket in the hall and toys everywhere.
  • My only pop ins are my mother or my neighbor (who has 19 month old twins so double the mess) so I don't worry too much about that. If there was a chance of a lot of outside visitors, I'd have to seriously work harder on the daily clutter.

DS' play room is in the basement and we keep all his toys down there.

We also spend a lot of time downstairs so keeping upstairs clean is much easier.

My dream is to one day have all toys in the basement.  Right now, our basement is an unfinished and dingy storage room.  I actually moved most of LO's toys to his bedroom when I did a toy purge/organization at Christmas and he does pretty well at just playing in there but there are few that eventually make their way out.
  • I strive to have the house in a state that would be presentable for company within 1 hour. I don't tolerate drop ins. And I don't live close enough to anyone for that to happen anyway.
  • Mine is.  It's not sparkling or anything, but I'm kind of OCD with the tidiness of my house.

  • It starts out clean and gets progressively messier by Friday. I would say it's generally drop-in ready as long as they don't venture into laundry hell, aka H and I's bedroom.
This is us to a T!  It's not like we live in filth but by the end of the week it is usually in need of some repair!  We've been working hard to have DS pick up his toys each evening.  All dishes washed/dishwasher running but after a full day of work, spending time with DS, working out, chatting with DH we are exhausted!  The last thing I'm doing at the end of the night is dusting or filing magazines that came in the mail during the week.
  • See, I don't care if our friends/family/neighbors see that our house gets to be a disaster.  It's life.  If it's so bad that it can't be seen by anyone, well, then I can't see it that way either.  And if it's not so bad that I can't handle it, then it's not so bad that anyone else who is allowed in can't handle it.

Our play room is half of the living room. The dog bed is the other half. I could have a drop in today but I would have to move stuuf off the love seat for them to sit. I love my clutter

  • My house is pretty clean and clutter free most of the time. I am sure that as LO gets older it will be more of a challenge to keep it that way.
