Daydreaming toddlers

So I've noticed Emma sometimes stares into space for a few seconds, like she's daydreaming.  I mentioned it to the pedi at the 18 month checkup and she said it sounded normal.  But then I saw someone asked about it on a FB mom group and they brought up absence seizures, which I promptly googled and of course now I'm worried.  Stupid google.   I'll have to pay more attention to it but she doesn't do it very often, and it doesn't last long.  Do any of your LO's seem to daydream?

Re: Daydreaming toddlers

  • K will. He will sometimes get in this daze where he just stares into space and I will call him, snap, clap, whatever and sometimes he won't even respond, other times he will slowly get this cheeky little grin as if he is fully aware I'm calling him but he remains in his daze. But then he snaps back to reality and is fine. I've never been concerned, but usually when he snaps back he gives me this grin as if he knew I was trying to get his attention and it was fun ignoring me.

I sometimes kind of daze off too though or get in an intense stare at nothing and have come back to reality because MH is calling my name or something. So I figured its normal.

  • Ahhh!!! BACK AWAY FROM THE GOOGLE!

Emmett does occasionally stare off into space like he's day dreaming. Our pedi also said this is normal.

And, if you're still freaked out... I had absence seizures in high school. For the most part they are nothing to worry about, so even if she is having those, they are most likely nothing to be concerned about and she'll likely grow out of them. Also, I could be wrong - but I think the typical onset for absence seizures is a bit later than this age.
@sunshinelady6 yes that's what I read too but then I had to go and google TODDLER absence seizures and of course found cases of it starting then. Thanks for the reassurance though!

I do it a lot too so I never thought anything of it until now. I'll step away from google now...
