Paranoid freak

Autumn just got her vaccines yesterday and I wasn't told what symptoms to look out for. The vaccine site is a little red and a little swollen but more so swollen under the skin not where the redness is. Would you consider that normal?

I was about to call her doc but I don't want to disturb her if unless it's something to be worried about. What are your thoughts?

Re: Paranoid freak

  • She's also not able to keep Tylenol down.. I don't know if it's the taste (she took it fine yesterday) but today she threw up everywhere! I've never seen her throw up so much all at once and it came out her nose too poor girl :( I tried to give it to her again and I put the tiniest drop in her mouth and she threw up again. I'm waiting for the nurse to call me back while I keep an eye on her temp but wow I've never felt this paranoid. She definitely had an easier time for her first set of vaccines.

  • My DD had swollen red bumps the day after. They lasted about 2 days. Then a few days later, her left leg got a huge lump under the skin. I called the dr and they said the TDaP vaccine can do that and it could last up to two months. They said to only be concerned it it got worse or looked infected. You could always call your dr to check though, that's just what mine said.

  • Thank you! I'll take any tips I can get! I was thinking maybe a different flavor of Tylenol might help. When I put her horizontal she choked on her puke and I was so scared! It projected out of her nose so I flipped her over to get it out and it was like the exorcist! Now I'm a little paranoid to try that again after 2 times of that, she was having trouble breathing right after I almost called 911 but I managed to clear her nose and she seems fine again. I dread vaccine time :(
  • Thank you for the reassurance, I called our nurse and she made me feel a little less like a paranoid freak. I hate seeing her not acting like her usual self :(
  • You might have your routine down but my trick with Tylenol is:

    1. GRAPE
    2. Get them horizontal
    3. Only fill your syringe half way. (.6)
    4. Have your binkie on stand by
    5. Squirt
    6. Chubby cheeky squish
    7. Blow in face (triggers a swallow reflux)
    8. Boom pop in the binkie.
    9. Wait 5 min., if no spit up then try the second half of the dose.
    10. THEN have them remain horizontal for 10-15 afterwards to reduce spit up.
    11. Follow by 2 ounces of formula/BM 15 min. after dose.

These directions should be on the side of the box. Seriously.

  • @redfallon:   Right? The things that no one tells you. I should write directions on how to use baby soap and baby lotion too because those tasks are also more of an art than science!
