BF related: growth spurt or comfort?

So my long day home yesterday was also accompanied by my almost 7 month old reverting to newborn eating patterns. He nursed 8 times between 9 and 5!! Approx. 1 hr 15 minutes between each feed. Please tell me this will pass and he'll be back to 4 to 5 times!

Re: BF related: growth spurt or comfort?

  • Yes, it will pass. :-) O has been nursing like crazy too. It might be a growth spurt, or comfort nursing due to teething.

  • Was he actually swallowing? I'd almost vote for teething.

  • My 10 month old does this occasionally.  I'd vote for teething!

  • Hmm. I haven't been though the joys of actual teething yet. Is it as bad as it sounds?? Or is it just lots of comfort nursing. If comfort nursing -- I can handle that!

I had bad and easy teething. The first tooth was bad, crying, whining, fever. The next three came without even noticing. Then we had fever and whining before the back teeth came out and then a few days later, teeth.

  • Something else it could be is sort of a "Hey, Mommy's home with me all day & she normally isn't.  I'm gonna nurse because this new routine has me all messed up."

G does this whenver we're travelling or when I pick him up from DC early for a Dr. appoinment or mix up his day in anyway.  Still.at.16.months.  Drives me batty sometimes. But it does pass as soon as he feels comfortable with whatever's new in his life.

I was wondering if this was it too. Can he really tell the difference from a weekday vs weekend though? I'm usually home all weekend with him and he doesn't nurse this often.

Oh well, I'm loving my baby snuggles! Nothing is sweeter than a little baby nursing to sleep in your arms.

  • I swear G knows the difference between weekend and weekday. Like maybe he senses it in my mood or something. IDK.

Whatever's causing it, I hope he feels better or grows or gets acclimated soon so you get some time without a babe on the boob soon!!

  • My guess is the change in schedule too. Enjoy the snuggles.
