STM - Teething question for toddler

Did your LO get a fever when they were getting their first molars?  If so, do you remember how high?  DD has 3 molars trying to come through all at once :-/  (already talked to her dr about her fever and he said to keep her on Tylenol to bring it down and bring her in Friday if it hasn't come down)

Re: STM - Teething question for toddler

  • Yeah, my daughter tends to get a runny nose/cold/low fever when she's doing serious teething.  It was never above 100 though.  I have found that Ibuprofen (Motrin or Advil) works much better for teething than Tylenol, so you might try that instead.  It also lasts longer, which is a bonus.

Second the Motrin, lasts longer and works much better for teething pain, keep it consistent at every 6 hours on the dot and she should be a much happier camper.  We also like to do frozen fruit in the mesh feeder since it seemed to help number the gums some :)

  • Thanks ladies!  I found a 4th tooth today...  Poor thing!  Her fever was around 102 yesterday and hovered there.  Today, she's much better.  I was hoping maybe it was just so many teeth coming in, but I guess she caught something on top of all that.
  • Yes, it hovered around 100.

This exactly, only every time we get teeth (my son still only has 4 but they took a month each to come in), his nose always gets so runny that he always ends up sick. Last tooth he ended up with a high fever.

You can also alternate Motrin and Tylenol every 3 hours. After how well Motrin works for high fevers though, Tylenol sucks.

  • I agree with Motrin. It's always worked better for DS. As for the fever, I've read a low-grade fever (which I believe is under 100.4) is fairly normal.

  • Wow, 7 teeth in one month is brutal!  I checked again before she went to bed and it's 4 molars.  Poor thing!  She's had eight teeth for several months and now all the sudden a bunch more are trying to come in!  I will definitely look into Motrin and see if that works for her.  Motrin products have never brought my fever down, Tylenol has.  I just assumed it would be the same for her.  Glad to hear so many good reviews about it - since Tylenol wasn't really helping her fever yesterday...  I was really hoping to have something that worked better for her.  Thanks ladies!
