Juicing during pregnancy!

I've started juicing and I have noticed a big difference. I think it really cleans you out! I also have a lot more energy! It's so great especially since I don't eat as healthy as I should. I substitute my juice for a morning breakfast which keeps me going til lunch. Are any of you ladies juicing? If so what recipes are you using?

  • H and I do, but just as a supplement, not a replacement for any meals.  We try to do more veggies than fruits though to cut down on the amount of sugars, so our 'sweet' juice is usually 4 carrots, 1 apple, 1/2 orange.  Then we do one that's 6 kale leaves, 1 cucumber, 1/2" ginger, 1 apple, 1/2 lemon.  It smells very grassy, but tastes surprisingly good.

  • We have a juicer and occasionally juice, but like pp as a supplement and not a replacement for whole veggies and fruits.  We also do mostly veg, green apple and lemon are really the only fruits we use.  Other than that its greens, cucumber, celery, carrott, ginger, and fresh herbs like parsely or cilantro.  Yum- kinda craving one now.  It's nice to have for making things like fresh lemonade, bloody mary mix, and popsicles because I can control exactly what's in them and they're fresh, not processed.

  • I make smoothies. Not exactly juicing, but I don't really like the idea of taking all the nutrients and fiber in the pulp out of the fruits and veggies. I watched that documentary about juicing a few nights ago with H, where the film maker went on a 60 day juice fast and just didn't get how he could do that. It was physician-supervised, so I assume it was safe, but I don't understand how there can be enough nutrients in a juice to survive on alone for 60 days.

My smoothies are usually super simple: milk and yogurt or orange juice, frozen fruit, a banana, and maybe a big handful of spinach if I have any on hand. I've heard chia seeds are really good for nutrients in them too, so I'd like to experience with some, but haven't yet. Blend it all up, delicious.

We watched that documentary too (I think it's called Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead, we watched it on Netflix).  I was surprised too that they could go that long without any food at all, but I think they did a decent job of showing how much the doctors were involved, so hopefully people don't get the idea to do it that long on their own.  If I were to ever do it as a 'cleanse' it might be just one day of nothing but juice, but definitely NOT while pregnant.

We bought a big book with a bunch of juice/smoothie recipes, but what I like is they also have recipes that you can use the pulp in too, so that's something we have yet to try.
  • I do occasionally, I usually juice what's about to go bad. Carrots and apples together taste amazing. Throw in some ginger if you don't feel well.
  • Um, I would die. Literally die. I need protein and something substantial throughout the day. I had a half a bagel with cream cheese this morning and was RAVENOUS. Added milk and a banana.
