Re: Milk supply (pumping at work)

  • i agree with the compressions, they really helped me a lot.  Even if you can't add an extra pump every day it really helpful when you can.  I would get to work about 20 minutes early and start my day with a pump session.  My supply was always best in the morning, and even though I had usually jest fed LO right before leaving for work it was still usually the best pump of the day.

  • I got a set of Freemie cups and pump discreetly right at my desk so I can pump every 2 hours without feeling guilty about taking pumping breaks. (My office also just didn't have a place for me). I think it freaks my boss out a bit when I take my cups out, but not enough to lose my work productivity. So now I'm productive in two ways :P
I have a 10 hour day and pump 4 times (every 2 hours) and so far at least match what DS eats while I'm away, if not also building up the stockpile.

I don't know how old your LO is but I when DD was small I would pump first thing in the morning and then 3 times at work and once right before I went to bed.  I ate a lot of oatmeal, lactation cookies, food in general, and drank a lot of water.  I also took a lot of fenugreek.  On the weekends I would nurse and pump as much as possible.  This was the only way I could keep up.

All of this except the fenugreek, which did a number on my stomach.

And if you happen to have a thyroid problem, fenugreek can alter thyroid hormone levels (if you are already hyper or hypo thyroid).
