False labor questions

So I feel ridiculous as a STM asking about this, but this pregnancy has been totally different from my first, and lately is no exception. I've been dilated at 3.5 for about a week at this point and I'm 38 weeks. With DS, I never had a single contraction until I was actually in labor and my entire labor from first twinge to baby out was 9 hours. This time I keep having false alarms! Over the past few weeks I've had painless BH every so often. Last night for about an hour or so I was having contractions but I was always able to talk, breathe normally, and walk normally with them, and as I was considering calling my doctor, they stopped and I was fine. It's been happening again for the last hour or so. The good news is my office is 2 blocks from my hospital so at least I'm not worried about getting there. Today when they started they were only on the left side, and now they are the entire belly. They feel like bad cramps, but again, no one at work would know I'm feeling them because I can act completely normally, they are just very uncomfortable. Are these just another form of BH or false labor or what?

Re: False labor questions

  • Maybe it's just early labor? I had something similar Sunday night. They were regular, timeable and all. Not overly painful but I called and they wanted to see me. Ended up being a false alarm.

It's hard to say because you do hear of the odd person having a baby at home or whatever by mistake! But for me I am waiting for my water to break, ctx I cannot talk through, or my scheduled date... Whichever comes first. Lol. Any BH or ctx that aren't crazy painful are going to be ignored at this point.

  • Thanks! Yeah this is just so foreign since last time was totally straightforward! Glad to know I'm not the only one.

  • I had consistent and pretty strong BH for weeks before I had LO. I am a STM too but was induced with #1. I even went to the hospital on the day DS was born having contractions that were 2-3 minutes apart and were strong but not painful. After being consistent for over 5 hours, they stalled out an hour after I got there and if DS hadn't been having decels, they would have sent me home (even dilated to 5 cm).

My contractions were never painful though until my water broke and once that happened it was only 45 minutes until I was holding LO so it went fast.
