3rd Trimester

Severe pain and discomfort

So last night right before bed, I started with very sharp lower right abdominal pain. I thought I was going to need to go to the hospital because I was writhing in pain. I started getting chills and it was worse when I was laying down. The baby was fine, he was moving around and kicking like usual, otherwise I would have been at the hospital sooner. Anyway right before I was going to call my parents and ask them to take me to the hospital (my husband was out of town), it subsided to the point of mild discomfort. So...I went to sleep. I was in pain on and off through the night, not like the initial pain but more mild. Today, same thing. Of course I called my doctor and after talking to her, she's pretty sure I have kidney stones. My appointment is tomorrow so she'll work with me more on it then. Of course she told me if certain things happen, go to the hospital but for now I'm ok. I looked up the symptoms of kidney stones and I have pretty much all of them... Which of course I would prefer to anything relating to the pregnancy but still...OWWW. I never even considered this as a possibility. Just out of boredom and curiosity, anyone else experience this at any point during pregnancy?

Re: Severe pain and discomfort

  • I THINK I might have kidney stones right now.  I've never experienced them before and I'm not in a tremendous amount of pain, but my back aches pretty bad and I've had blood in my urine.  No UTI, ultrasounds came back clear...on to a urologist next to try to figure out what's going on!

  • I went through this exact thing in the second trimester. Horrible pains that were on and off, but constantly stabbing pain in my back and abdomen. They did ultrasounds of my kidneys and saw a stone in my kidney, but said that probably wasn't what was causing me pain. Was sent home with some painkillers, and told it was probably just pregnancy pain. The pain continued for over a week, until I fainted and went back to the ER. Again, said possibly kidney stones but they couldn't be sure. Again, recommended that it was pregnancy pain and that some people experience it differently than others. I knew this was not the case!! Yes, I'm a FTM but STILL knew it had to be something more serious. The next day I started passing kidney stones, and had 5 in a period of 2 days. As soon as the last one was out I felt so much better!!! I hope that for you they could diagnose it, but the only thing they can really do is treat your symptoms. Good luck!
  • Thank you all!
