TTC After a Loss

What "extras" are you doing to help in the TTCAL process?

Re: What "extras" are you doing to help in the TTCAL process?

  • I'm just on my routine stuff now.... a prenatal vitamin, my Synthroid, and Vitamin D. Once we get back into prepping for TTC again, I'll be adding the CoQ10 back into the mix along with a baby aspirin. I'm starting to try and eat healthier and if the weather would ever break for more than a day I'd like to get out and start running (or walking very fast for now at least) to get moving on my 5k training. All the mumbo jumbo I'm reading about pre-e keeps mentioning weight. I'm not overweight persay but I'm a good 10lbs over the max BMI for my height....granted I know thats a load of bs most of the time but Id like to at least get down a little so I can say I'm doing all that I can to prevent (hopefully) it from reoccuring next time around.

I am on the longest laundry list of supplements ever - not purely for TTCAL, but also due to my Lyme and thyroid problems. The big ones: Prenatals, Ubiquinol (active CoQ10), B vitamins, maca, magnesium & coral calcium, extra folic acid, vitamin D3, biotin (due to problem identified during karotyping), and DHEA (identified low levels). My OB also put me on baby Aspirin, and my naturopath has me on progesterone cream (OB will officially put me on progesterone if I get KU). Whew!

I am also starting acupuncture this week. I've scaled back my caffeine consumption as well, and have taken many steps to reduce stress as I have a naturally high stress personality.

Totally serious question... is there a difference between active and a regular CoQ10? I took just whatever was on sale during my last fresh IVF. Is the one you're on better for you???
@kflynn81 ~ You might ask your RE, but the way my doc explained it to me, Ubiquinol is easier to absorb. I've seen literature that indicates there isn't much of a difference between the typical CoQ10 supplement and Ubiquinol until after the age of 30. Ubiquinol seems to be preferred after the age of 30 based on my research and my doctor's recommendation. But I'd ask your doc - it might be perfectly fine to use what you have, possibly at a higher dosage. GL!
Good to know, thanks!!!  I'll ask whichever doc. I see first :)

@meladoriestar I'm the same way! I always slept great when actually PG. But since my miscarriages, insomnia is back with a vengeance. It doesn't help that I've got a lot of other stressors in my life right now.

@jarc2009 I'm interested to hear what other stuff your sleep psychologist said, too. Already I sleep in the darkest room possible, turn off backlit devices an hour before bed, don't drink caffeine in the afternoons, etc.

Same here. I try to turn off the TV and most lights before bed, and then do something calm like reading. No caffeine after noon, no more than 2 small cups of coffee in the morning, no electronics in the bedroom etc. Just doesn't help. Even when I eat well and exercise, it doesn't help. It sucks!

I am the same way- the room has to be completely dark and I need to stay away from lights before bed. In fact after this I should turn off the computer ha. I also have this really good unwinding routine where I do something really boring in bed like Soduku before I fall asleep, which helps relax my mind from anxiety- I recommend that! As far as the doctor goes I think what was so great about it was before that every advice from doctors had been how terrible ambien is and to set up a sleep hygiene routine. I was so sick of hearing it and so grateful that this doctor didn't do that at all. Instead he was so validating and calm about the ambien, basically being like this helps you- it's ok. But then he sort of like what is the worse thing that will happen if you dont fall asleep and I got to play out all my fears! He had me keep sleep charts and weaned me off the ambien- for example 1/2 a pill one night a quarter the next- until I slept the same on both, and then a quarter one night and nothing the next until I could do both. He also had me to do this silly thing where I woke up at the same time every day and got direct sunlight for as long as possible, honestly I couldnt keep that up though. The idea was to tire me out though and re-set my circadian light rhythm. I have done a ton of research on sleep so if you guys want you can PM me and I will see if there is anything else that helps! The truth is he really did help me- I went from taking it 4 times a week to hardly ever and my insomnia is so much better. Hope this helps!

  • I am taking my multi vitamin with extra folic acid, pre-seed, opks, acupuncture twice a month, only drinking water and no dairy/artificial sweeteners/or caffeine at my acupuncturists request.. I have also lost 20lbs since my d&c cause of stress and acid reflux issues.. I'm thinking the weight loss is hurting more than helping tho cause my cycle is really wonky lately :/

  • OMG y'all are all so much better about this than I am. I thought I was doing good but y'all totally just shamed me.  All I've done in TTC efforts is take my prenatals everyday, quite using aerosol dry shampoo, and cut back my caffeine from 2 mugs a day to one.

I've also starting working a HIIT routine a few times a week and eating a little healthier. I also started drinking those naked fruit drinks so I get more fruits and veggies in my diet.  BUT all of that was more because of the fact when I went to the OB this month I had gone from 108 in April to 115. I know that's a far cry from over weight but it's a jump in short time frame and it was all centrally located on my booty and thighs.

I've also started bring work home with me at night so I didn't feel so stressed about not being able to get my work done in my 8 hour day.  And started a daily devotional both of which have cut back my stress levels.

  • I love this post because it makes me feel a little less weird. I definitely feel like TTC has taken over my life. Since my loss and starting over again I have quit drinking my diet soda and limit my caffeine. I used to totally rely on my ibuprofen for anything and now I have to be completely miserable to take it or any other non TTC med. I take pregnitude twice a day as well as my metformin and prenatal once a day. I go to the gym 3 times a week and just started doing yoga twice a week to try to calm myself down. I definitely cut down on my alcohol intake, started juicing daily and I try to get as much sleep as possible. I am currently working on trying to clean up my eating habits and thinking about trying acupuncture here this next cycle. I am just trying to get myself as healthy as possible.
