Parenting after a Loss

Recommend your baby carrier

Hey ladies, I have a baby bjorn that I got at my shower. I hate it and plan on exchanging it. I would like something more comfortable and simple. I mostly want it to wear Zaiden when I'm doing chores, but also when we are out too. What do you ladies have/like? TIA! :)

  • For chores and general out and about I love my ring sling - it's so quick, and it's SO easy to nurse In public with. I actually keep a spare one in the car.
I also really like my Ergo but only really use it for longer trips like hikes. I just used a receiving blanket when he was itty bitty. And I love my wraps too, but that's a whole other topic....

  • I have an ergo and a k'tan. I love them both. The k'tan is easy to easy and comfortable, I enjoy it for nursing. The ergo is great for out and about, my husband wears the ergo with DD in it frequently.

  • I hate my moby. it's long and awkward and it slips and stretches after awhile. I love my Beco. It's easy to put on and I can breastfeed in it while shopping with a cover over me.

  • Perhaps look into whether you have a local babywearing international chapter in your area?  That's a GREAT resource for Mom's wanting to baby wear but who don't know yet what they'll like :)

Moby is great in the beginning.. it's stretchy, though, so only really works well for the first 6 months or so.. if you've tried wrapping, and you like it (it's not quick and easy as a beginner.. definitely takes some time getting used to).. there's tons of other options.. like @katharine25 mentioned, I could go on and on about the pros and cons of different wraps and carries :)

Ring slings are good options, too.. many Mom's like them a lot.. good for quick ups and downs, too.. and, again as Katharine mentioned great for nursing in.. I never got in to them.. for some reason I never felt they were secure enough.. my boys could pop their legs out straight and pull the seat right out from them.. to me, it was just as easy to do a ruck and wrap them!

You could check out soft structured carriers, like the ergo.. my DH loves our Ergo.. when they were really little, as mentioned above, we just used a rolled up receiving blanket to prop them up a bit higher.. that helped tremendously.  A mei tei is also a great option.. it's still a structured seat, so it's quicker for ups and downs, but the straps are still tieable, which makes it conform more to your own body..

Lots of these things can be pricey.. especially for quality (and, quality goes a longggg way when you're talking about carrying around the weight of a toddler eventually!).. whcih is why I suggested seeing if there's a local BWI group in your area.. they'll have a "lending library" where you can borrow from to test out which kinds of carriers work best for you.. plus, they'll have tons of knowledge and suggestions to you help you learn the tips and tricks of babywearing :)

    Best of luck to you!!

  • We have an Ergo and a K'tan. I LOVED the K'tan through probably 7 or 8 months... after that I wanted something with a little more structure. I had a Boba 3G and just didn't love it, but I do really like the Ergo. I'm still trying to master the back carry, but now that it's winter I'm not really wearing DD much.

  • I love my Ergo and so does DD. I tried a Bjorn before that, and it was awkward and DD hated it. I've also read some things about the Bjorn being bad for baby's hips. I would love to try a Boba and a Beco, but too pricey for me right now. I've heard great things about both of those though!
