Contractions following exam question

Had an ingernsl exam this morning, have been having contractions that seem to be getting stronger since about a hour post-exam... I am sure it is normal, and obviously will monitor them, but has anyone had experience with a plain internal (no membrane sweep) bringing on labor? She definitely got right up in there to see how effaced I was and how low baby girl was lying, but my doc would never sweep without my consent. Starting to wonder if this is the start of it but not jumping the gun either...

Re: Contractions following exam question

  • Excuse my typos- bumping whilst contracting.

  • Normal :)

Could be just from the exam or could be your body prepping for the real deal :)

  • Like pps said, it's normal. I experienced this after every internal exam. The cervix just gets irriated after being poked at like that.
  • As I said, I know it's normal- thanks for the feedback. Contractions slowed in the night and are down to nothing his morning. Better luck next week I s'pose!

  • I have decided to skip my 37 week internal exam.  I don't want to go into labor early.  I started spotting and having a few contractions as well.
  • Unfortunately, this happened to me with my first. I was about 34 weeks and was given an exam, felt pain afterwards.....gave birth 3 days later. I am sure this is not the 'norm' but I have not had an exam while pregnant since and I am expecting #5.
