Once s/he is older, I will allow a very limited amount of junk food. It will be a rare treat.

Grace, put away the can of whipped cream and the sponge cake. I don't even want to know what you were planning on doing.

  • I'm going to put it off as long as I can. I have a very bad junk food addiction, so there's no way she will never have, but I'm going to hold out as long as I can.

  • I recently let her have a crumb of birthday cake but that's it so far.

  • Nothing yet, and we will wait till he's older and still limit it. I love cookies and cake but only bake something maybe 1x per month. Other than that we don't have junk food in the house. We will definitely let him have a cake smash though.

  • I was raised in a house where I was allowed to have junk food and I rarely ate it and eat really healthy as an adult, my friend was raised not being able to have it and went crazy when she was at other people's houses and when she was an adult so I'm definitely not making it forbidden.

  • I'm kind of a zealot about nutrition and don't ever buy anything for our house that's not either natural, whole, or organic. But that doesn't mean I expect my kid to grow up in an organic bubble. For example, I don't pack organic snacks and baby food to day care, I just let them feed her what everyone else is having. Same will go for school and friends' houses in the future. But at home it will always be natural and healthful foods only, with the exception of birthday cake. :p

  • I have not personally given DD any junk food, but that's not to say she hasn't had a little taste here and there. It was SIL's bday over the weekend and her kids picked out an ice cream cake with grandma. I caught grandma letting Madeline lick the cake on her spoon. I wouldn't be surprised if she's let her lick/nibble at something else I wouldn't eagerly hand over to my child.

  • everything in moderation. A few of my funniest memories as akid involve my parents letting us eat whatever we wanted on some vacations. We went to the hershey factory, by the end of the trip we were asking for milk. Whenever we went skiing in Colorado we were allowed captin crunch. I am happy with how my parents raised us, we ate dinner together every night and my mom makes most things from scratch. We are all a healthy weight and know the importance of being active and I will raise my kids the same.

  • I give my 3 year old a small treat daily (cake pop from Starbucks when I go there) but we don't keep sweets or pop (soda) in the house. He is also a very good eater and loves his fruits and veggies so I don't mind that he has a sweet daily. He knows we don't keep that stuff in the house and he doesn't ask for it.

  • Eh... I'm not giving her any now besides her "cookies" aka teething biscuits. I will probably limit the sweet treats when she's older- my husband and I allow ourselves one "sweet treat" snack a day- so a cup of ice cream, or a few cookies. We stock a lot of treats in the house, but try to aim for healthy ones- muffins, granola bars (sometimes homemade), fruit, veggies, etc. I also make most of our treats anyway, so I will sometimes cut the sugar or such.

  • My son's first taste of junk food was his first birthday. I let him have treats every once in a while, like a little ice cream on a nice summer day, etc. He eats well 95% of the time. That's good enough for me. We will do the same with Grace.
