Breastfeeding

BFing logistics the third time around?

I know a lot of people ask how they will be able to successfully breastfeed, especially in the newborn stage, with two kids - as did I when pregnant with DS2. But now that I am pregnant with #3, I am worried it will be even more of a logistical nightmare. I know that it'll likely/hopefully be my easiest nursing relationship so far in terms of experience on my end. When DS2 was born, DS1 was 27 months and went to daycare during my maternity leave so DS2 and I had all kinds of time during the day for the 12w I was off. I am a teacher and due in July so I will not have childcare as an option for the older two this time. I know that they're older and everything will probably be fine, but I'd like to avoid July/August turning into a TV watching marathon for my boys. Just wondered if any moms of 2+ had an experiences/tips to share. If nothing else, I guess all I can do is hope for a faster nursling - both of my boys were slooooooow nursers until 3-4 months old.

  • The main thing I did with my third was to call in the reinforcements. If you have family who can visit, that's a great way to keep the older kids entertained. I'm not sure of the age of your kids, but given it's the summer, they may enjoy getting together with their school friends over the summer. Maybe offer to take your children's friends for the day at the beginning of the summer, and their moms can return the favor after your new baby is born. GL!
