Newborn Docs

Have any documentary suggestions about newborns and newborn care?

Re: Newborn Docs

  • Thanks for the advice!

Mostly looking for something productive/semi-educational to watch from the comfort of my warm and cozy bed.

  • Loading the player...
  • Couldn't agree more! Google has certainly made looking for info on any other site redundant. Thanks for the helpful suggestion.

  • Youtube then? Amazon Prime? Hulu? Netflix? You are probably just going to have to search newborn care documentaries on those and see what you come up with.

    "Babies" was an interesting documentary.

  • That is where I started looking, too. I suppose I am looking for suggestions and reviews. You know, the 'thumps ups and thumbs downs' and witty critiques from the Siskel & Eberts in TheBump world :)

  • I think the wording of what you're asking for is a little off. "Documentary" is really different than a non-fiction baby care overview.

"Babies" is a documentary film that follows 4 babies growing up in different parts of the world. It's pretty fascinating.

"Happiest Baby on the Block" is from the book of the same name. I have friends who swear by the DVD but I've heard the production value is low. We have it but haven't watched it yet.

Nat Geo's "In the Womb"- follows from conception to birth in detail and is a pretty good documentary (but there's like CG and puppet/rubber babies that live in the uncanny valley and wigged me out a bit)

There are also podcasts available on newborn care and birth and all kinds of PG related stuff.

    Everybody is welcome!!!
  • Shall I add an answer to my own query?
    Why not:

I found a 4 episode TV series called 'Bringing up Baby' (2007).
It compares three different childcare methods for babies:

    - Truby King method (a strict, routine-based method from the 1950s)
-Spock approach (a more relaxed approach based on parents' instincts, popular in the 1960s)
    - Continum Method (in which babies are in constant contact with a parent at all times, based on tribal child-rearing methods and popular in the 1970s).

Parents are assigned a method, and an expert… and the cameras roll…

  • Try going to your local library's website and searching for "newborn baby care" videos or something like that.
Or, if you're fine with buying, then go to Amazon and do the same and just buy based on people's ratings.
