Iphone help

A friend of mine had her iphone 5s crash on her - she is afraid she lost a lot of pictures and videos of her DD. She tried plugging it into her computer to retirieve the files, but it doesnt work. She said she always thought something was a little wrong with it, as whenever she tried to backup her files it would fail. Anyone know how she might be able to get those files back?

I have never had an iphone, so I am no help to her....

What does she mean by crashed? Like... it wont turn on? Or does it seem like it wiped everything out and was set back to factory settings? (like her pic folder is empty or something)?

Do you know if she made any backups to the Cloud service? or to iTunes?

What exactly happened?

She cant get it to turn on at all, even when plugged into the computer. She has had it since november and had not been able to back anything up.

I think she is planning on taking it to the apple store, but is asking for suggestions in the mean time

If it won't turn on at all, she may be out of luck. And if there's signs of water damage she may have trouble getting a replacement.

She should have gone in when it would back up or let her get her photos off.

This happened to me with my last phone. I didn't have iCloud and my phone would randomly turn off. It crashed one day and ALL of my pics/videos were lost. Our IT director, Apple store and Verizon couldn't do anything to help. I was devastated.
Hopefully this is not the same case for your friend.

I hope they can get her pictures back for her.  I have it set up so my pictures on my phone automatically sync to my FB account in a private folder that no one can see but me.  It makes me feel better if something does happen to my phone.

You might suggest that to her for the future.

If it is the phone itself, they might be able to take the SIM card out of the old phone, and put it in the new phone. If they do that, then they might be able to recover everything.
