Prune juice for baby?

Has anyone ever heard of giving a baby prune juice for constipation? DD hasn't pooped since yesterday morning so I called the dr to see if they had any tips to get her to poop. The nurse said I could give 2 oz of prune juice. I am nervous to give it to her as I had never heard of it before. Thoughts?

I've never heard if that. I trust my pedi, but that sounds odd.

Is she BF? If she is, a few days without a BM is no big deal.

Unless baby is seeming to have discomfort there isn't a need to poop everyday, especially if you are BFing.

I have read that on the internet. Fwiw, I was in walgreens the other day and saw a baby cinstipation relief medicine that was prune extract, so I would think prune juice would make sense. Plus think of what it does to us lol. Also my LO had a similar issue last week with not going for a couple days. Someone had suggested corn syrup to me (even though it's kinda old school, I broke down and bought some of the light stuff) and it worked great for my LO, she went within a few hours.

I've heard about it from a friend. It made her child have crazy diaper blowouts and diaherra in just a tiny amount that was given.

Yeah I thought it seemed odd. She is ebf and has been having plenty of wet diapers. The nurse didn't sound concerned and said it isn't uncommon for babies to go a couple days without a bm. She's a little crankier then usual but doesn't seem to be too uncomfortable.

Maybe she is just giving her mommy a break. Two days in a row she had horrible back to back blowouts. Just as I got her redressed she would have another one. Ugh! That was fun

Sounds about right. Nola is a month today and she poops just about every other day, huge blowouts but like clockwork...

My baby is every uncomfortable too. My cousin actually said after baby was 3 months old she would give him some prune juice

You can give your baby prune juice just dilute it with more water. Prune itself would be too strong straight. You can also try putting Vaseline on a Qtip and just insert slightly in and it will help her poop.

Yup. Qtip or thermometer with a little Vaseline for easy insert in LOs bum. If you do prune just. Just do 1/2 teaspoon in a 1 oz bottle of milk.

Jack had a constipation issue when I was bf while on iron supplements. Our dr said Karo syrup until you see one loose stool. She told me 1 tsp in a 4 oz bottle. I didn't want a blow out so I started at 1/4 tsp and worked up. 1/2 tsp was sufficient enough.
