Crib bedding set???

I am debating back and forth on whether to even register for one of the pretty bedding sets for the nursery.  Part of me feels I want one and the other says how practical is it.  I know that your not supposed to use the blanket/quilt when they are infants.  Any thoughts ... especially from experienced moms.

  • I'm just doing sheets and a bedskirt. I found the material I liked, and had a co-worker make the bed skirt, and she's also making a diaper stacker, and my mom is making curtains from the same material. I just don't feel comfortable at all using bumpers, and I didn't want to waste my $ or anyways time on making them.
Maybe you could do this, find the pattern and material you like and then have someone make it for you.

  • If you want to go with a set I used the bumpers as a crib skirt because my set didn't come with the skirt.
Here's the best picture I have to show it.
  • I'm looking for a cute crib skirt and registering for coordinating sheets.

From what I've heard from friends, you never use the comforter for the baby anyway. And depending on your personal opinion on bumpers (I won't have padded ones, will consider mesh ones to keep limbs from between bars after more research), those may be useless as well.

I'm also not into the whole coordinated set thing. So yeah, I'm totally skipping even looking at bedding sets.

  • Like many of the PPs, I'm also just doing sheets and a bed skirt. But hey, it dosn't hurt to register for a pretty bedding set if there's one that strikes you! There's probably other ways you can use the blanket/quit that comes with the set besides using in the crib, like draping it over a chair or using it on the floor for tummy time or something. I think you might as well register for it.
  • Just another vote for the sheets/skirt only route.

  • Thanks all for the advice.  I think all the bedding sets are so cute but realize that they aren't that useful.  I love the idea of trying to use the bumper pads as a bed skirt as well (someone already bought those for me).
  • I didn't want one either because they are fairly useless and crazy expensive, but my MIL insisted that "people want to buy you stuff". So we found a set we love and registered for it. I figure either someone will get it for us and that will be nice or no one will and I get to be right! I always enjoy that! If no one gets it for us I will just buy the fitted sheet and find a simple bed skirt that matches. If we do get it I plan to hang the quilt on the wall and call it decorated!
  • Ugh isn't this the dilemma? I got the set I wanted from Pottery Barn, including skirt, sheet, quilt, but not the bumper, but the sad part is the bumpers are what makes the cribs in the pics so stinking cute! The bumper is $99 by itself and I am just waiting to get some extra money, plus I figured she won't be sleeping in her crib for a little while, so why not have it look pretty. Terrible I know.

  • I did with DS and regret it big time. This time I'm just making sheets and possibly a crib skirt but even then you don't really need that and they don't work well with all cribs.

  • We got a hand me down which changed the entire theme of our nursery. But we are so ok with it. I don't think I would have shelled out 200 for a set on my own. If someone bought it for us that's a whole new story. Meh I like the idea of jungle and saving our original sports theme for later when he's a little sports star ;-)
