Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Bathing issue

I have a nice infant tub that I've been using since birth.  Baby is now 3 months old and I'm having problems bathing him in it because his bottom keeps floating up.  His tub has a foamy inclined back to keep him in place and a bump at the bottom as well, but these things don't seem to help since he's floating upwards.  Anyone else have this problem?  Is there a better tub or device to use?
Right now I have to hold him the whole time in a pretty uncomfortable position.  He's not liking bath time as much anymore.  Even putting him in the more upright toddle end does not help as he tends to fall side to side on that end.

Re: Bathing issue

  • We're having the same issue. No advice as I just keep my hand over LO's belly to help keep her where she should be.

  • I just wear a bathing suit and sit in the bathtub with LO now.  He loves "swimming" and kicking at his bath toys - which isn't really possible in an infant tub.  Just something you might think about trying.
  • We use a bath chair in the sink. When LO can sit well enough I plan to just take a bath with him.

For your situation I think less water would solve the problem.

  • Use a bath pillow in the big bath tub and lay baby on the pillow.  Fill bath tub up enough to cover baby's legs and use a wash cloth to keep the tummy warm, it makes giving a bath so easy and my son loves to kick his feet in the water.

  • We were having the same issue. His butt kept sliding but we couldn't use the sling anymore bec he's too long. We put a handtowel under him. It was unfolded and went up his back down to his bottom. This gave him a lot more "traction" for his butt to stay in place. Also helped with him sliding from side to side every time he moved his head. Sorry for the formatting....mobile.

We also have a bath pillow. I love it.

This is exactly what we did. I gave up on the baby tubs at like 4 weeks. Too much of a hassle. I just lean over the tub and it's no biggie.
