East coast vacation ideas

Myself, DS, & DH are traveling (driving) from New Hampshire to North Carolina at the . Where we will be in NC is on the SC border and about 4 hours from the coast. Any ideas for places to stop along the way? We are mostly going to visit family and we are giving him a birthday party while we are they but we also want to make it a vacation and do something with the 3 of us.

  • If you want laid back then carolina beach is your best bet. MH and I have been there twice and loved it. You are very close to Wilmington so lots to do but the beach area itself is very "small town". We also love myrtle beach in sc but it is a very busy, on the go area so keep that in mind. Have fun!

My family & I vacationed in myrtle beach each summer growing up, I loved it. Haven't been since I went with a group of friends for high school graduation! It was very busy then and I'm sure it is now, too, we definitely want laid back. I will look into more laid back beach areas. Thanks!

  • I am partial... but stay in Sandbridge in Virginia Beach.  Super quiet.  Not touristy (its our locals beach).  It is where we go all summer.  It is very family friendly!

We've been meaning to try this beach. It's closer than the outer banks and quieter than OC Maryland.

  • We love going to Williamsburg. Great Wolf Lodge is down there, They have a big indoor waterpark. It's lots of fun. There's also tons of historic stuff to do like Colonial Williamsburg.

  • Will you be close to Charlotte?

  • @chefnicole22 yes! I grew up right outside of charlotte. I have actually never spent a lot of time there, my parents would never venture into the "big city". Haha, I don't want to spend a ton of time there but might bring DH there, whats your recommendation in charlotte?

  • I went to Johnson and Wales University there! Do you know where Winston-Salem is? That's where I am now lol.

If you like sushi and burgers I recommend Cowfish. It's one of the most interesting restaurants there and has a burgushi option, which is sushi and burgers together in the best possible way! https://www.thecowfish.com/ Discovery place in uptown Charlotte is a good museum for kids(and adults) and isn't too expensive. If it were warmer, you would have to visit the US National Whitewater Center! That place is amazing! I also really like Fuel Pizza, but the people in Charlotte seem to love it or hate it.

  • @PaisleyRuth I don't mean to hijack this post, but would you both want to have a Charlotte get together sometime?
