High-Risk Pregnancy

I'm worried.

Hi ladies- as some know from my previous posts, I'm high risk due to incompetent cervix. Right now I'm 6 weeks 4 days along. This is my concern: yesterday around 4:00, DH and I had intercourse. I felt fine, no pain, cramping, nothing at all. Then I woke up this morning at 5:00 AM to go pee, when I wiped it was pinkish tinged. I still have a lot of CM since I've gotten pregnant, and It was pink as I kept wiping it. I'm super freaked out now! There's no cramping or backache that's out if the norm though. Should we stop having intercourse? Any advice, stories, etc. Helps!!!

Re: I'm worried.

  • Most ladies that I know of who have incompetent cervix or are supposed to be on bedrest are also on pelvic rest which means no intercourse, no tampons, no stimulation, no orgasms because these can cause cervical changes and contractions. The pinkish discharge should go away soon, it's usually just from irritation/stimulation, as long as there isnt excessive spotting or pain/cramps I think you'll be ok. I'm not sure how much change your cervix has really gone through since it's still early in your pregnancy, but it's better to be safe than sorry.... at least until you talk to your Dr.

  • I don't think it would hurt to talk to your doctor to ease your mind, but I wouldn't worry.  I think it is pretty common to have some spotting after intercourse while pregnant, whether you have cervical incompetence or not.  There is a lot more blood flow to the area due to the pregnancy.  I also had some spotting with both pregnancies after intercourse (before the cerclages were placed), and it did not last long.  I agree with PP that as long as it's not heavy and you're not cramping, then it should be fine.  Good luck!

  • At this point in your pregnancy your cervix isnt really doing much "supporting" for baby. If I had chosen to go the TVC route with my IC I would have been on pelvic rest the whole time, so you may want to run that by your dr. Hoping its nothing but and irritated external cervix. What is your plan of attack as far as your IC is concerned?

  • I'm going to be getting a cerclage at 16 weeks and then put on bed rest. Because I'm so nervous, I've put myself on modified bed rest. I pretty much stay on the couch or my bed all day and only go places with DH on weekends.
