DD all of a sudden won't sleep alone and will cry hysterically. help!

DD is 15 months and has always been such an easy baby. we would lay her down to sleep, leave the room, and she'd go right to bed. she was also great at independent play and would rarely want anyone to hold her. however, the past week she all of sudden doesn't want to be left alone for naps or bedtime and if we do leave the room, it's not a normal cry... she cries hysterical bloody murder! i have NEVER heard her cry like that EVER. on top of that, she's been wanting to be picked up constantly and cries hysterically if no one will do it. i don't know if that coincides with the bedtime thing, but i just need advice and thoughts because i'm at wits end right now. her crying just makes me cry. thanks you guys.

This is us exactly. We think it has something to do with separation anxiety. From what I've read, it shouldn't last too long. We are going on 3 weeks.

Is she not feeling well? Dd gets this way with teething or being sick.

I feel like I am always the one writing this but I am such a believer... have you looked into wonder weeks?  I think there is one around the 64 week mark which might apply to you.  Your DD may have been easy for the other ones but the clinginess, night crying, separation anxiety time symptoms sounds a little like that.  It should pass, just love her up!

This was us. It was awful, and we didn't get any sleep. Plus we ended up leaving for Christmas and sharing a bed with her for 2 weeks while out of town. So when we came back it was even worse. After a month of getting zero sleep with her in bed with us, I really just put my foot down and tired everything to get her into her own bed. We tired putting her in a big girl bed, converting her crib, and her mattress on the floor, nothing worked. Finally, just one night I told her she was going to sleep in her crib and she was going to be okay. I started talking with her earlier in the evening. "We're going to take a bath and have lots of fun playing with your toys!" "Then we will get jammies on, and nurse." We'll snuggle and then guess what! You're going to sleep in your room by yourself like such a big girl." I really think that helped. We did exactly what I told her and I think that helped. When we got to her room I swayed with her and prayed (As a person of faith I give a lot of credit to that.) with her. I laid her down, told her I loved her and walked out.

She whined for about 2 minutes and was out. I know that worked for us and I hope you find something that works for you!

DS goes through phases like this every couple of months.  Usually it is separation anxiety kicking into high gear, +/- teething.  Luckily, it only lasts several nights and he goes back to STTN.

Oh my gosh, that was us last night! She was horrible about going down. I hope it's just a very short lived phase, because we didn't get her down till midnight last night and I am dragging today!

Same problem here! DD is 13 months and I know part of it is teething but she has been on a sleep strike for 3 months now. I'm so over it!

I am going through this now with DS who is just about 16 months.  It is exactly what you describe: very easy baby, now crying hysterically at bedtime, MOTN wake ups and won't go back down unless we bring him in our room, super clingy, etc.  I figured it was separation anxiety and am praying that it is very short lived.

DS is almost 19 months and has been behaving just like that at bedtime for the last week--sometimes naps too. He unfortunately was the opposite of an easy baby so I'm used to the crying but the only way he will go to sleep over the last week is if DH goes in the room. For some reason DS lays right down and won't make another peep--for me though? Forget about it...he's crying before I even shut the door. Hoping this passes quickly bc he had been going to sleep on his own no issue for quite some time. He's also been having a lot more tantrums lately too. Blah.
