I have recently (as in the past couple weeks) had a major "breakout" of skin tags.  They seem to be spreading all over my neck and chest.  I've read they are a common pregnancy occurrence and nothing to worry about.   Just surprised by them, since I never had a single one before I was pregnant.

Re: Skin Tags

  • Each pregnancy I've gotten them. With this twin pregnancy, they're doubled. Thanks, hormones.

They, for the most part, go away. Tea tree oil always helped me when I was ready to deal with them post-pregnancy.

They go away?  This is hopeful!  I thought they were a permanent thing!

That happened to me at about 36 weeks with my first pregnancy; you're right, they're normal! Annoying, though. They can get infected if they're in a place that rubs, and mine didn't resolve on their own (ie, I had to get them cut off).
I'll keep that in mind.  New ones seem to be popping up everyday!  Yesterday I looked in the mirror and I saw I had inadvertently scratched one til it was bleeding!  I didn't even know it existed!
  • Same! Some can go away but many won't. Genetics at its finest! I have a tiny one on my eyelid that obviously only I notice but drives me crazy!

I just read about it yesterday on a bunch of internet articles. Here is what I gather, skin tags are common in pregnancy due to hormones, your skin getting stretched in all directions, getting rubbed against each other etc. most of them will go away on their own however a few stubborn ones my persist. For those that don't go away a trip to the dermat will take care of it post birth. Just be careful not to use those ointments in the market that are supposed to dissolve skin tags as they can get into your breast milk. The dermat will probably just freeze and cut them off which is a lot safer especially if you plan to BF.
  • I've got them on my neck! They have a bit of a brown tinge to them too. DH is obsessed with them and would love to pick at them a bit but he gets a serious side-eye for being so creepy, lol

At any cost- I would not let him do that. It might pigment or scar your skin which you obviously don't want.
  • UGH! Glad I'm not alone. I also got one on my areola. ANNOYING!

  • I also recently noticed a teeny tiny one on my boob two days ago. So weird.

I do remember reading somewhere that this could happen and that other things you may have before pregnancy could grow bigger. For example if you had a wort, or an existing skin tag, or moles. I have personally witnessed a couple of my moles have grown quite a bit and it's disgusting. One of the first things I'm doing after recovery is getting them removed. I highly doubt a mole will shrink back in size.

FX that all of our skin issues calm down a bit!
  • I had some pre-pregnancy and some more have popped up now. I've had success in removing them by making a paste with castor oil and baking soda. I put it on them twice a day and within a week or so, they were gone.

  • Yeah my areolas have started getting random bumps on them. They almost look like warts? Are these skin tags developing?

That's actually just the glands around your nipples getting ready for breast feeding. They'll produce a kind of lubricant that, in theory, helps keep your nips from becoming completely torn up during BFing.

I get skin tags on the regular because of my PCOS, usually in my armpits. I have one really big one right now...all the little ones have come and gone. This sucker apparently plans on sticking around.

I also have skin tags from PCOS prepregnancy. I haven't been paying a lot of attention, but I have noticed mine have gotten bigger too. I have a few moles that have changed, too. Hopefully they decide to go away or at least get smaller after delivery!

  • Wart on the face is always fun too. SO. FRICKIN. GROSS. I hope it goes away after this pregnancy is over. I guess worst case I have to get it removed but UGH! Gotta love pregnancy goodies.

  • My sister had these during pregnancy. I think most went away after birth, but she did have to have one removed by her dermatologist.

  • I've also gotten a few tiny ones on my nips, I was wondering if it was pregnancy related, glad i'm not the only one!

  • I have quite a few right around my bikini line... which is really annoying as far as rubbing :( One I had before pregnancy... and it's gotten bigger ugh. I'm glad I'm not alone... I def want to get them removed post pregnancy. We joined the high deductible plan so I'm hoping once we reach my max (probably at the hospital) that getting these removed will cost nothing...

I just noticed some on my bikini area, especially in the joint between my legs and pelvis. Of course I haven't actually seen these, just felt them while shaving. So many weird things happening to my body!
  • I have tons of them too on my neck and chest and side boobs.  They are so gross.  I'm hoping they mostly go away--if not, I may just hit up a dermatologist to get me straight later down the line.  I know they are normal but ugh they gross me out.

Some fall off, some don't. I've had success with tea tree oil. When I'm feeling impatient with one, I'll tie dental floss around it and knot it off. Fun times.
