Hip Pain

Morning everyone! So I have had a pretty easy pregnancy so far (besides the horrible morning sickness) but since I have sit 20 weeks I have been waking up with hip pain. I have a snoogle pillow but I really don't like sleeping with it. What have you all done that would help? I was thinking of getting a regular body pillow and trying that out but thought I would get some suggestions first.

Re: Hip Pain

  • I'm using a regular body pillow at night, I don't love it but it was better than nothing. The back/hip/sciatica pain is a killer! I sit all day at work (and mostly at night too lol) but getting up to go on walks throughout the day helps a bit. Hope you feel some relief!

  • I also used a body pillow, sometimes supplemented with another pillow between my knees. It seemed to help to keep my knees apart while sleeping.

  • I have found that sleeping on my side and then rolling my hips slightly back helps.  I also wake up in the middle of the night and roll onto my back for a few seconds/a minute to let my hips relax and then I can roll onto my side to sleep again.  Sounds strange but the pillow between my legs didn't give me any relief, my hips really want to be flat so I just try to roll them to as close to that position as possible while staying on my side so I can breathe.
  • Using pillows hasn't given me much relief for my hip pain. Someone suggested a mattress topper - to make the mattress a little softer, that has helped a little.
Honestly, I often end up coming out and sleeping on the couch, basically sitting up. Might not sound very comfortable, but it is and at this point if it's the only place I'm comfortable sleeping I will take it!
  • Thanks everyone! I will try some of the suggestions. I usually have to wake up and rotate sides or else I am so sore in the morning.

  • DH got me a heated mattress pad for Christmas and the heat has helped my hips significantly. I they still get sore which wakes me up and makes me turn, but when I wake up I feel so much better than before we had it.

He got it from Costco and it is duel sided (so he sleeps with his side off), and it's waterproof so of my water breaks I wont die.
