If you're married or engaged, how did your S/O propose? I'm not married or even dating for that matter...but I'd love to hear some sappy love stories and get all emotional
We dated almost 5 years. I sorta talked him into the date. ....10/4. He said he could remember that. (Anyone know about CB talk and they'll understand) he told me 2 days before he proposed that we couldn't do it just yet. Then he surprised me. Even though he had the ring I still asked if he was serious.
Ours was similar to @AFwifelife ...we had been dating five years. We had the talk....and he proposed. It was my birthday and he said my present was himself if I would have him.
Although I'm jealous cause leu gardens is beautiful. You're not still in Orlando though right?
DH and I have known each other literally our entire lives (our parents were friends) and they use to joke about an arranged marriage. We hadn't talked in over 10 years and good ol Facebook got us talking. We realized we were both in Boston and decide to get drinks. Drinks turned into 6 hours and we haven't been apart since. We moved in after 3 months, he proposed at my favorite beach on my favorite bench watching the sunset. We have been married a little over 2 years:) (pic of the bench from our engagement photography)
We were dating for about 6 years, living and raising his daughter together and I was frustrated it hadn't happened yet! But he asked me at home with his daughter one night after a causal dinner where they were both teasing me about how bad I wanted to get married. I thought it was a joke til I saw the ring

We were dating for about 2.5 years and he proposed at this local bar/restaurant downtown that we always frequented and had surprised me with like all of our family and friends there. He was being so awkward that day I knew something was up.

DH proposed the day before my 30th birthday in January. We live in Bermuda so I wanted to celebrate my bday with some snow (which I rarely ever get to see) so I rented us a beautiful log cabin in Vermont. I knew he was going to do it but it was still overwhelming and exciting. He dropped down on one knee in front of the fireplace in the cabin.
He proposed to me at Millenium Park in Chicago. It was the day after Christmas and all the lights were on the trees, it was evening and super pretty.
I had no idea what he was going to do. We had picked out rings like six months earlier but I thought the actual engagement would be a lot further away.
I thought he was messing with me until he opened the box and I saw the ring I picked out inside.
We are started dating our final year of highschool so we had been together 6 years or so. We were living in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada at the time, DH took me to a look out we often visited and proposed there. I knew something was up that evening because he was nervous and a little too well behaved!!
We had been dating 5 years and I was with him when we picked out and bought the ring so I knew it was going to happen, just didn't know when and where. He hid it in his safe but every time I went to visit him I would sneak and try it on. Anyway he finally asked me Christmas Eve at like 11:30 at night while we were walking through the display of lights in town and it was lightly snowing.
We were out celebrating his sister's 30th bday party. We took a limo and there were about 8 of us plus his parents met us there. After partying all night we were getting back into the limo and he made me wait for everyone else to load in and when I turned around he was on one knee. He had the ring in his pocket the whole time and I never had a clue. Usually I'm good at picking up on surprises but nope not that one. He even told me that he went diamond shopping earlier that day and I asked him if he bought one, he said no and I left it at that.
We had dated for 2.5 years but knew since day one. I moved in after only 3 months of dating.
We had been dating 5 months when DH was stationed overseas for a year. We also had the talk of get married or break up. On his mid tour while at my condo he proposed and we were married a year and a half later!
Dh suggested we go to our favorite Mexican place and then go watch the sunset (which was surprising for him because he's not romantic at all). On the way to the sunset he was freaking out because he was afraid we'd miss it. We got there and he had placed a brick he had made that said on one side Jeremiah 29:11 and on the other Mr. & Mrs. last name. Then he got down on one knee (which he said he'd never do) and proposed. I was so shocked that I didn't even say yes for a few minutes!
I knew it was coming because we had been ring shopping, both in our town and also on a trip to NYC. I waited outside the jeweler in NYC for a long amount of time before DH came out and said "I didn't get it, the guy wouldn't come down on price" Uh-huhhh, you're not fooling anyone! That was mid-December. A month later we went on a long weekend away to Traverse City, MI for adult time away from DS1 and to spend it together wine tasting. On our first night there he said he wanted to stop by the beach to see the frozen waves. It was bitterly cold, the wind was whipping and it was brutal. But, I kind of knew what was coming He did it on the beach in the freezing cold, but it was still perfrect. I was glad he did it the first night there so we could spend the rest of the weekend celebrating!
We went back to Traverse City for our mini-moon and I'm planning 2nd anniversary trip there this fall. Can't wait!
DH had I had been dating a little over 5 years. It was the first spring day warm enough for outdoor running, so we went to The University of Notre Dame to run the lakes. When we were almost back to the car he said he needed to stop because his leg was bothering him. He pretended to stretch/grabbed the ring from his pocket & proposed.
My fiance and I somehow grew up in the same small town and went to the same small school and never knew each other until well after college. A mutual friend ended up asking both of us if we wanted to hang out on the same day with his GF (clearly a set up but to this day he won't admit it) and we clicked instantly, it was total cheesy movie moment "love at first sight" stuff.
We had our first actual date at a place that had just opened (he refused to let me pay even though later admitted that he didn't know that restaurant charged almost $50 a plate and had a mild heart attack about the bill) and it was amazing. We were basically inseparable. And then I got pregnant.
Both of us knew we were going to end up staying together and getting married and all that but being pregnant changed things. I had a hard time early on (just dealing with judgement from others) but eventually came to terms with it and was fine waiting to get married. We were going to stay together and it would happen some day so I just thought we'd wait and talk about it down the road.
Well he came home after work one day and asked if I wanted to go out to eat. He had been complaining about his knee hurting and thought he messed it up at work. Eventually we decided on the same first date restaurant and off we went. He was still in a lot of pain with his knee. It was a gorgeous day and we were out on the patio which was very busy. He got up to use the bathroom and when he came back, he started complaining about his knee again, he was starting to make a scene. I was getting embarrassed because he wouldn't sit down! He eventually acted like it was super painful and went down on one knee, my exact words were, "what are you doing, does it really hurt that bad, just sit dow.... ohhhhhhhhhhh." Then I got it. I laughed so hard and obviously said yes, I was completely surprised. He really committed to the act! Everyone on the patio clapped and cheered and we got this huge delicious cake that we shared with everyone, it was wonderful
Good Post idea! Let's see...We went to Starbucks just about every day. So when we went one afternoon I didn't think any more of it. I ordered my drink but for some reason I decided to get a bigger drink than usual. The Batista asked if I needed a venti water. I was like no.... He said I'm going to give you one anyways Whatever. Lol. I get to the end and we are both waiting for our beverages when I get the water cup. There is writing on it. As I am reading it...I realize it's my husbands handwriting and he is proposing ON THE CUP! I turned to where he was and he is on one knee with the diamond ring. It was the sweetest thing ever.
DH proposed at a covered bridge that's near us. It was our 1 year anniversary, we had just moved in together, he'd already asked my opinion on the ring. So I knew it was happening that day and was fairly certain I knew where (I was right). He's a carpenter so he actually made the ring box out of wood, it's beautiful. However the actual proposal is totally DH (I really think he does not have the romantic gene in his body). He took me to the bridge, handed me the box, said "Admire the box first." Then asked me to marry him. No down on one knee, no sweet speech that I'll remember, nope. I said yes of course because there's no one else I'll ever want but I joke a lot that he needs to redo my proposal... especially since he was engaged before me and since DH and I were friends all through college I know she got the one knee, romantic speech, surprise, and DH's best friend took pictures. But I'm not jealous or bitter about it...
We went on vacation to Chicago so I figured it was coming. We went to dinner and then a midnight boat cruze at Navy Pier. We were looking at the skyline and he got down on one knee. It was simple and perfect!
In the movie theater parking lot after watching Transformers. We had been together four years.
He proposed there because most of our first date was in a parking lot. We just hit it off so well that we couldn't stop talking and next thing you knew my dad called me yelling and telling me to get home now since it was way past curfew (DH and I started dating in high school). Lol
I thought it was really sweet he wanted to propose in a way that meant something to us.
We went on vacation to Florida with some friends and one evening we headed to the beach to see the sunset. DH & I took off on a walk down the beach. Once it started getting dark, we headed back to meet up with our friends.
On our way back we could see what looked to be a little fire someone had left in the sand & decided to get a closer look. Once we came up on it, I noticed that it was actually lit candles spelling out "Marry Me?"
I thought "Awe, how cute for someone to propose that way!" Then turned around and DH was on one knee. (His friends had set it up for him)
Christmas Eve 2006, we were on that way to his Grandparents' house for the evening. We were bickering about something and stopped for gas. DH asked me to go in and get a drink, as I remember he did not ask so nicely, lol. When I got back, I went to hand it to him, and he told me to put it in the cup holder. It was one of those in the center console that you have to push on the cover to get it opened., so it was closed, though I remember it was open when I left. When I opened the cup holder, the ring was inside. Pretty sure I put it on and said something along the lines of "Fine."
We were given my great grandmothers rings our senior year of college. We got them sized and moved in together, so I knew it was coming. The rings were in a box in my dresser and I saw them every time I opened the drawer. Why I didn't notice the box was missing one morning is still a mystery.
DH and I were going to celebrate our Christmas, just the two of us early, since we would be traveling to see our parents Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. So we planned it for a Friday, with a nice fondue dinner and exchanging gifts after work. DH had taken the ring out of my dresser that morning and had the box in his pocket all day. He said he kept taking it out to look at it . When we got home, he went back to the bedroom to fill my stocking and when he came out, he handed me my stocking, with the ring box inside and it had a white bow on top. He sort of got down on one knee in the process and asked me to be his wife. It was the perfect setting for us, at home, just the two of us, and it made me the happiest girl in the world!
At his fire station during his 1 yr probation (completion) dinner. This dinner was a big deal for him and he wanted to make it even more special. We went ring shopping earlier that year while on vacation in San Francisco.
Dh proposed to me in front of his huge French Canadian family at their massive yearly reunion. I nearly died because he's normally a really shy reserved guy, he got down on one knee and everything. One of his cousins video taped it I teared up immediately and kept asking "are you serious?!?" Until finally someone yelled, "she hasn't said yes, yet" and then I yelled out "yes! Oui!!!!"
We had looked at rings and found the one I really liked. He told me it was to expensive ( yet it was cheaper then ring we had looked at) so I knew he had probably gotten it. He said he wasn't going to propose till after August. We went to the beach with my family the second week of August. We went for a walk on the beach and were sitting on a life guard stand when he had me close my eyes and started talking about being together forever . He said he couldn't afford the ring I picked out but got this one instead and I could hear him opening one of those 25 cent ring bubbles. When I opened my eyes and said yes I looked at it and said wait is that MY ring?!?! Then kept holding it up so I could see it in the moonlight. We then ran back to the condo to tell my parents and call friends.
We had been dating 10.5 months, lives together and had talked about it quite a bit. My Christmas present from him was a cruise. When we went I was seasick the first night so he didn't do it. But night 2 I was on the balcony looking at the stars and told him to come look. When I turned around he was on one knee. I was surprised because we had had a huge fight a couple of weeks prior where we broke up for like a day because I didn't know if I wanted to get married right away and he told me he had already bought a ring. I said yes (obviously) and haven't looked back since!
I will give him kudos though because at the time he chewed tobacco (I made him quit before we got married because we) and hid the ring in an empty Skoal tin and stored all of them in the safe and I had no idea.
Apple picking last October (right before we planned TTC #2). I love how DD was a part of it. We were with our friends who took a picture of the moment. I was totally surprised or I wouldn't have looked like such a mess.
I know I'm late, but I want to share anyway because reading all of your posts made me so happy!
I knew DH was going to propose eventually because we had "the talk" and picked out a ring. He waited for MONTHS after buying it, though, so I didn't really suspect and was starting to get impatient. We went to the restaurant where we met/had our first date (we met through an online dating site) and had a lovely meal before visiting his parents (since we weren't living in that city anymore). At the end of our delicious Vietnamese meal and a few delicious beers, the waiter brought our fortune cookies. When I opened mine, the fortune said "Will you marry me?" and DH's cookie had the ring in it. It was so cute and the restaurant brought us this giant beer to share..which would've been great except I came down with a cold that night and felt like arse, lol.
The most romantic thing my husband has done wasn't proposing. He came to pick me up at a train station in London after surgery on his knee. He was on crutches and in a lot of pain. It was my first time in London and navigating the underground and catching the train to his mum's home was overwhelming. He also planned a huge surprise party for my 30th, he had organized a trip to a nail salon with the girls at work, then afternoon tea followed by a really amazing dinner at Alinea (for those of you in Chicago!). I have never felt so special and truly thankful for him. I also had no idea he had planned any of it.
Our proposal on the other hand was so unromantic that it might be romantic. It was Christmas Day at my parents house. Everyone was busy opening presents/playing with my nephew or getting drinks for family that had stopped by. My husband was too nervous to wait and so had me open a gift, containing a ring of course, and he proposed. The only person who saw it happen was my sister who was watching avidly. My parents were excited but with an under two, the fact that we were now engaged got lost in the chaos of Christmas.
