Grace, you're a grown woman and don't need to be sleep trained. Now put your clothes back on and sit down.

  • Haven't done it because I didn't need to do it but I would have done it months ago if we had needed it.
  • All I can add is that I wish I had been more consistent about letting her self soothe when she was younger, but nursing to sleep was just too quick and easy. If I had, then we probably wouldn't have had to do CIO. I'm glad we did though because now she and I aren't sleep deprived. Happy baby, happy mommy.

  • @kdc2007 G taught Harper everything she knows! Thank you!

    This.

However...I do feed her to sleep at night and for naps.  I know this is going to eventually become a problem, but I'm not sure I'm quite ready to give this up because I love my cuddle time with her.
  • We're in the middle of CIO now. Tougher on mom than baby I'm pretty sure but the kid needs a gentle push to learn to self soothe. When I saw the recommended number of hours a baby should be sleeping a day I knew it was time, poor kid was so overtired.
  • She is basically training herself.  But i guess we are training her.  She wakes up we soothe her and she goes back to sleep and we leave.  The last couple of nights she wakes and we wait a few minutes and she goes back to sleep.  Is that training?

  • My kid is 100% boob dependent for sleeping and gets up multiple times a night. We will most likely get a doctor's note so I can attend college with him so we can co-sleep in the dorms at this rate. Kidding. But DS1 was the same way and things eventually got better close to 10 months so I'm just holding out because I'm too lazy/don't have the heart to sleep train. It would probably be best for him to learn self soothing skills but I'm a wimp.

  • We did it.  I was hopeful we'd not have to, but then she went through a really rough period, and we went ahead and did it, and we're all happier for it.

  • Grayson sleeps better if we just let him go to sleep when he's ready. I give up on any kind of sleep training.

  • We're still in the middle of it. He doesn't give in easy. He sleeps in his bad no matter what. He is still eating a couple of times a night, which we need to break. He doesn't want to be outback down after he eats at night. We've been letting him cry it out at those times. He cries less than 5 minutes most times now before he goes back to sleep.
  • Also he still isn't sleeping enough. He gets 9 or 10 hours a night usually.
  • @calikat80 I have a boob dependent baby too, I'm hoping she's like your DS1 and breaks the habit soon. We've done some tips from the No Cry Sleep Solution and had some good results but she is by no means a great sleeper. I'm not emotionally ready for CIO.

  • I don't plan on doing it. Key word is "plan"... For all I know it could get thrown out the window. But for now, no.

  • @calikat80 that is so nice to hear! I keep waiting for him to learn on his own. My mom said she never did CIO with us and we eventually just slept. I'm hoping for the same! He usually goes back to sleep pretty quickly which is why I think I'm not ready for CIO. I just wake up a lot, we don't "stay" up.

@chelsry1 and @kellenhi21 there is hope! Ds1 definitely was down to one quick 5 minute comfort session by 8 months, needed a paci assist at 9 months then just would wake up and need a friendly face every once in a while until a year. Then it was 12 hours straight without any training. Most kids eventually learn on their own but I totally understand the need for some to get baby better trained. I was ok with the wake ups and I feel like this time is even easier because I have been through it and feel a true light at the end of the tunnel!

    so glad to hear that!

  • I'm in denial that I may need to learn about and consider sleep training. I had a perfect sleeper for the first 5-5.5 months of her life. Last night she got up 4x. What happened to my good sleeper?!?!?

  • We did CIO. The first few nights he would wake up when he would normally eat but I didn't go in there. It would make it worse of either my husband or I would go in to do any sort of soothing. Now, he might wake up in the middle of the night but will cry for less than a minute and fall back asleep.
