I've decided for dinner to try this vegan black bean soup. It taste nothing like black bean soup!! It taste just like tomatoes!

This is what i did. Sauteed carrots, celery, onion, and garlic. Added pepper, cumin, and chilli powder.
Then added 4 cups of veg. Broth. Added 2 cans of black beans, brought to a boil.

took 2 cans black beans, crushed tomatoes, and diced tomatoes...blended and added to the boil.

I've added more cumin, chilli powder and pepper.

How can i fix the taste and make it taste like black bean soup? Or is thissoup done for, no turning back now.

I normally can figure this out, but I'm at a loss!!

Eta: I've added corn and garlic too.

  • Add some sugar to cut the acid? Tomatoes are really dominating. I would have probably left them out.

    Maybe some heavy cream?

  • : sigh:

    I'll try the sugar.

Oh well, it's not bad..it's just overwhelming with the tomatoes.

I'm also going to add my spices.

  • So you have a trader joes near you? You can dump in a jar of their spicy black bean dip. It's amazing! You could also blend and add another can of black beans. Blending them will bring out the flavor more and thicken it.

  • I know I am late to this party, but the longer you cook it, the more the tomato flavor should mellow out.

  • Behind that preposition. ;)
    =))
  • It def. Tasted better the longer it cooked. I added more seasoning to it too.

  • Since your tomatoes are canned they have an overly strong taste. This would be an extra step but you need to cook your tomatoes down more.  I would do it in a pan for 10-15 mins with a little olive oil.  Drain some of the juice.

Otherwise, if you can get fresh tomatoes that would help too.

    Good luck!
