UTI early pregnancy

Hi everyone!
This is my first pregnancy and I am between 4-6 weeks pregnant. My pee started to burn today so I assumed it was an UTI. I just sent my husband to get me some cranberry juice, but should I worry? I read where it could be harmful to the baby...Is there anything else I should do immediately?

Re: UTI early pregnancy

  • Unfortunately UTI's are more common during pregnancy. I had one and as long as you're aware of it, it's simple enough to take care of. Often during pregnancy, uti symptoms can hide pretty well. Cranberry juice is good but I would call the doctor. Mine wanted to give me an antibiotic and it knocked it out pretty quickly. Cranberry juice won't typically get rid of the infection!

  • So I will be safe to call my doctor in the morning? The office is closed now :(
Thank you for your response! (:
  • I waited to call my doctor for a day just because I wasn't sure if mine was a uti, and everything was ok! I'm sure waiting until tomorrow isn't going to hurt :-) just drink a LOT water in the meantime!

  • Thank you! That makes me feel better!! I have been living off of water for the past couple of weeks anyways! Now I will be adding a glass of cranberry juice in there! (:
  • I had a uti around the same time. My doc just out me on antibiotics and it was ok. :-)
  • Good!! (: ever since I found out I am pregnant I have been a worry-wart lol
  • A UTI I'm my third tri sent me into PTL. If you suspect that you have a UTI, call your doctor and seek treatment immediately.

  • I have a UTI right now, too.  My doctor gave me 7 days worth of Macrobid, and I feel better already and it's been only a couple days.  Give them a call!
  • Just had a call from my OB today letting me know that I have a UTI. Going to pick up my antibiotics tonight. He wasn't concerned and said it was common during pregnancy. I've had them repeatedly my whole life so I hardly notice that burning sensation anymore but check with your doctor and see. Best of luck & feel better!
  • I went yesterday and she said it didn't look "bad" but she said she will send it off just to be safe anyways. Since it was saturday I will not get the results back until Monday. She said in the mean time to drink plenty of water and if it gets worse to call the on-call dr. Thank you to everyone who has responded (:
  • Oops...since it was Friday...
