Surgery while pregnant?

Has anyone had surgery during a pregnancy? My doctor thinks I may have to have my thyroid removed soon and I'm freaking out. How far along were you during your surgery and how did they monitor the baby?

I had to have an emergency appendectomy when I was 7 months pregnant. If you do have surgery make sure you get extra monitoring after the surgery. My Dr completely dropped the ball. Bottom line is my baby and I both made it out of the surgery.
