Pregnant after IF

35 weeks with the flu!!

I tested positive for the flu. Never felt so sick in all my life. Primary care only recommended robitussin and Tylenol. Which isn't doing much. Called obgyn who said primary dr should have given me codeine cough syrup and tamiflu. So they sent in rx for tamiflu, which is category c. Also, I'm 4 days into this and tamiflu site says only effective if taken first 48 hours. Tired of being passed along between primary care and obgyn and feel awful. Okay, Done complaining ;) and yes, I got the flu shot.

Re: 35 weeks with the flu!!

  • I'm so sorry you are dealing with this along with being pregnant. I got the flu last year for the first time since I was 16 (and I have had the flu shot every year since then), and I literally felt like I got hit by a bus. I couldn't move the first 3 days and then slowly I gained my strength back. Lots of liquids and lots of rest! I hope you feel better soon!

  • I feel your pain! I'm 25 weeks and ended up in the ER last week and was diagnosed with the flu too. And I also had the flu shot. They put me on Tamiflu and Vicodin cough syrup, and had me on an IV for a while to get a couple bags of fluid in me to get my heart rate down. I also have asthma, so it hit me hard and I'm still coughing. I was a bit freaked out about the prescriptions, but ER doctor and also my OB assured me they are safe for baby. DH and DS both also got it (and both also had flu vaccines), but got over it quicker. It's awful!! I hope you are better soon!

  • Ah! how terrible. Hope you feel better soon!

I had a horrendous cough in Dec and needed some OB okayed codeine cough syrup - I only took it for 2 nights, but it really helped and it was only 4 tsps total. I debated taking it at all but I really needed the sleep to help me get better.

Take care of yourself! Thinking of you!

  • I am so sorry you're going through this!! I can't imagine being 35 weeks and that sick!! I got the flu last year and Tamiflu didn't really help me. • I also was diagnosed with the flu last week. I had been taking Robitussin and Tamiflu. I feel much better, but have this lingering cough. I can relate to It being such a scary situation of having the flu and being pregnant. My OB said pregnant women do not do well with the flu so the Tamiflu was a must.

Hope you are feeling much better and baby is well!!

  • Thanks everyone! @cscronce sorry to hear you have it too! It's really tough. I did go to E.R last night for I.V. Fluids which helped. I didn't have signs of dehydration but my high risk doctor suggested it as a precaution and I highly recommend it. Although we were there for 6 hours which is torture when you're sick but today I feel a difference. Hope you get better soon!!
