Strange Sleep Patterns?

My DD is now 14 months old. From the time she was 5-6 weeks she slept through the night. She had a small cold a few weeks ago and had a little trouble sleeping at night, everything is cleared up but now she is completely backtracking back to newborn sleep. She is at daycare from 7:30 to 4:15, comes home eats a snack and has juice. Then has a full dinner around 5-6pm, has another snack close to 8 (yogurt, applesauce, etc) then a bottle of milk at bed (yes I am trying to get the bottle to go bye-bye but I need my sanity for now lol). Now she is waking up random hours, sometimes it's 1am, sometimes 3 or even back at midnight. She is wet when she gets up but if I change her she just goes right to crying and needs to have a bottle to get back to sleep. I'm so confused!! We put her to bed no later than 9pm, I go back in and change her diaper (which is always wet) at 10:30 then I go to bed. I'm not sure if it's that she is peeing and waking up or that she is just still hungry....

  • I feel like I could write this exact same thing for my DS who is also 14 months.  I think it is just a phase.  He's done this before and either teeth broke through, he got sick, or it only lasted a couple of weeks.  The one thing I will say is stick to your habit!  Unless they are clearly upset or in pain, don't change the routine and they should fall back into.  We have to go in and give my son a pacifier when he wakes up crying, but I refuse to pick him up, rock him, and most certainly will not bring him in my bed (because I have a couple friends whose children make that a habit now).  I usually give him the pacifier and after a few minutes he calms himself down and is back to sleep.

Hope that both of our kiddos go back to their normal sleeping pattern soon!!  Good luck!

  • Ear infection?  Are you sure everything has passed?  Every time I think I am done with a DD illness its an ear infection and it ALWAYS affects her sleep.

    This exactly.
