would like to drop a pump

Hi ladies,

I am back to work and currently follow this schedule:

nurse (usually around 5:30am)
Pump 6:30
Pump 10
Pump 1
Pump 4
Nurse 7ish
Nurse 9ish
Pump before bed, usually 11ish

I really would like to try pumping only twice at work because all three is a struggle.  Right now I get about 4-6 ounces per pump and I do not notice much difference between times of day.  With this production I usually have a couple of extra ounces per day that I am freezing.  I had thrush and all sorts of other things though.. so my stash is currently about 50 oz.  Is it possible to drop a pump without dropping much in supply?  Any tips/thoughts?  Or do I need to just stick with my current schedule?  Baby is 4.5 months if that impacts your thoughts.

Thanks for any advice

Re: would like to drop a pump

  • Supply and demand, so if you drop a pump your supply will also drop but shouldn't affect the other feeds/pumps.  I guess it depends on whether or not you want to keep building a freezer stash.

I've also heard that working moms like to keep the pumps up at work in order to help keep the milk production up because pump is never as effective as the baby is.  You could try it and see how it goes and if you feel like you need to, add it back in.
