I don't really have much, but since I started the thread, I ought to come up with something, hmm?
This would probably have been more appropriate about a month ago, but I actually prefer "Happy Holidays" to "Merry Christmas". I heard so many people bitching about hearing people say "Happy Holidays" through December, and I just don't get it. It's still a nice sentiment, wishing you well, it's just not so presumptuous.
When people make it a point to tell me "Merry Christmas", I always respond with "Happy Hanukkah", even though I'm not Jewish.
I don't care for tattoos, either on men or women. Just NMS.
I can take or leave Will Ferrell. I can't stand Robin Williams, though. My DH thinks he is the funniest person on the planet and I can't disagree more.
Maybe expectant mothers spots are a regional thing? The only place I've ever seen them are down by my in-laws at Babies R Us. I haven't seen any at my local grocery stores or department stores...
My UO: I don't like it when couples decide on a baby name and then are all like "oh we know, we just aren't telling..." It comes off as annoying to me. I think it's totally fine to wait until after the child is born to announce his/her name, and I get not wanting people to comment about your selection or try to get you to change it. I just think it would be nicer if the parents responded with "we are still kicking a couple choices around" or something. I took the time to inquire about your growing family, and "we're not telling" kind of feels like a snub to me---I was just trying to be polite and interested, people!

Even if it's the week before Christmas and Hanukkah has been over for almost a month?
Shit, should I start using Kwanzaa? If they can tell me Merry Christmas on days that aren't Christmas, I figure I can respond in kind. Happy, filthy Pagan Winter Solstice?
Eh, I just say Merry Christmas out of habit. I don't get offended if people say Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, or Happy Holidays or whatever else they want to say.

I don't like tattoos on women and I dislike about 95% I've ever seen on men too. Not like, "oh you have a tattoo, we can't be friends," I just don't think they are attractive.
I agree, I just don't like tattoos. They're just not my thing. I can't think of one thing I want to tattoo on my body that I'll look at in 30, 40, 50 years and be happy to still see it tattooed there. Plus, I can only imagine what a tattoo would look like on a wrinkly body in 50 years!
See, I figure I'll be distracted enough when I'm 80 by my liver-spotted hands, wrinkly turkey waddle neck, rapidly thinning hair, etc. etc. to feel like "Man, this little tattoo I got on my back is the thing on my aging body that I really dislike the look of." But, then again, I got it the day I turned 18 and mostly forget it's there. *shrug* I already just find it amusing, so I've just never understood the idea that an 80-year-old is going to look at their aging, but still ticking, body and view their tattoos as anything but memories of another time in their life.

I agree. I've never personally wanted a tattoo, but the deterrent has never been how I'll feel when I'm 80
Not EVERYONE is carrying a second human inside that could also be injured in a fall. Your mommy martyr trophy is in the mail. T
Yayyyyyyyyyyyy! I have finally come up with a UO that is actually a UO! I feel part of the crowd now.
FWIW, I am like the least likely "mommy martyr" type person. That's funny.
Oh oh I have a second one...the trophy comment reminded me. I want to bitch slap people (especially in maternity stores) that call you Mommy. Like, "Our tall mommies really love these pants". Gag.
That's not to say I want to bitch slap @MissLadyTay...even though she may want to bitch slap me. Just the people who are supposed to be professionals that are calling you a cutsie name. My mom said her OB's office did the same when she was pregnant. Like nails on a chalkboard.
Eh, I just say Merry Christmas out of habit. I don't get offended if people say Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, or Happy Holidays or whatever else they want to say.
I don't find it offensive, just curious. Kind of like people that ask "So, where do you go to church?" as if, just by existing, I clearly share their beliefs.
My other UO: It annoys me that the "montessori school" I take my DS to didn't have a holiday party. I get not doing a Christmas party, but seriously? We couldn't even have like a "Happy New Year" or "winter" party or some ish?
Instead, they had a "multi-cultural party" where the kids got to dress up like they were from their country of origin. WTF was I supposed to dress DS up as? We aren't anything more than a mishmash. I'm probably more German (I have a traditional German-Jewish last name) than anything, but I don't even know what traditional German attire looks like...the only thing I could think of are things that really wouldn't be appropriate. And my DH is a mish-mash of stuff including Cherokee, but it isn't like he has any real ties to that and I'm pretty sure dressing a pale, white kid up as an "native american" might be offensive, too.
Ugh. It just annoyed me. Just have a darn, generic holiday party. It just seemed like they went too far trying to be politically correct.

I have tattoos but I agree they aren't everyone's cup of tea. Mine are all hidden since I work in a professional job and that was always my concern when I got them. I want to get another one as well. My H has 10 and I think that's a bit extreme and very few people can pull off that many.
My UO: I think after a certain age, older people should have to take the over the road driving test more often. Maybe every 3-5 years or so. I see so many older people that should not be driving and are dangerous.
Clutching my chest at the notion of 35 qualifying someone as an "older person". Why you gotta do that to a girl?
ETA: Aaaaahahaha, you said "every 3-5 years". I read it as "after 35 years". So does that make some sort of argument about aging and eye sight/comprehension?

Along these lines, my FB friends who post statuses saying things like "This mama is going to get her nails done!" or whatever other random crap annoy me. Most of the time, what follows "this mama" is not actually related to motherhood or their kids. To me, it gives the impression that your entire identity is now wrapped up in being a mother and nothing else. I don't think that has to be the case, I think you can still be a lot of the person you were before and incorporate being a mom into that. For me, it's not the Be All End All of who I am.
Edited because statuses and statutes are totes not the same things.

Yep. Also got a tattoo the day I turned 18, and I forget it's there. I'm also not worried about what my old, Golden Girls-version self is going to think about it. Pretty colors in addition to sagging, flaking, wrinkly skin, I guess.
WTF? Even without the tatts, he looks like some sort of elf or weird man-child.

but for serious. i do love my tattoos and i love tattoos on others...but i am pretty specific. i mainly love traditionally inspired work, ie. Sailor Jerry era.
this one's my fave. (sorry it's upside down....says "Beauty for Ashes")

everyone says that old navy is the cheapest way to clothe a child. I don't agree. 7 bucks on clearance isn't clearance. I get better clearance deals at gymboree and carters.

Old Navy is one of the cheapest in my area. I'm so looking forward to our cross-border outlet shopping trip because those sales are WAY better than ours. And we don't have an actual Carter's store, just chains that carry the brand and mark it up.

My friend's 8-year-old daughter asked me what mine is. I said it's supposed to look like a fairy. She told me "Oh, I thought it was a flying monkey." Which, really, is probably a better description. I blame my parents. This is what happens when you tell your rebellious child that you'll kick them out of the house if they get a tattoo.

This is my new favorite picture. Also, my father in law says stuff like this. "Oops, I'm driving almost at the speed limit. Time to slow down and get in the left lane so I don't get in the way of anyone trying to enter or exit the highway." Driving with him raises my blood pressure about 100 points.

I change my mind way too much to know that after any amount of time I'll like what I tattooed on myself. Ok, I will say though that when I see a hot guy with amazing muscles and he has one of those barb wire tattoos around his bicep, I do love that. Not gonna lie about that one.
My UO is all this FB crap! TB is fine with me. I don't even befriend all the people I know in person on FB. I'm definitely not going to show people I only know threw a Internet forum, my personal info and photos. Although many of you seem nice enough, I don't know if you are bat shit crazy in RL.
@pandadair-- My father actually cried when he saw my tattoo. For the record, it was the only 1 of 2 times I've seen him cry. Definitely parent's fault!
ETA: Also, the flying monkey is hilarious. Kids and their honesty.
I use the pregnant pRking spots when I go to BRU. I have a bad back anyhow but pregnancy exacerbates this. If I told my OB I needed a handicap sticker for the duration of my pregnancy he would tell me to suck it up. I used them in the beginning because I was so sick all of the time and any less time I could spend upright the better. The back pain overlapped the morning sickness so I've pretty much been parking in them since the start. I wish we had more parent parking in the area because it is hard lugging around my 24 lb 1 year old that doesn't walk well enough to walk into the store on his own.
My UO is yet to be determined. I had one this morning and forgot it.
Congrats to my GP Sister from another mister Bruinsbabe!!

I've had decent luck at Kohls too. And yesterday I found a 4 piece on set (Carter's!) at Sears for $10!!

I hate marijuana. Everything about it: the smell, the laziness, the paranoia etc. etc. I hate that it's still considered "cool" in some groups of people I know and even though I know it makes sense economically, I hate that it's probably going to be legalized. If that makes me a prude so be it.
And it's not like I haven't tried it, I have, and every time I did I thought maybe this time I'll like it....nope still hate it.
Also people that say it's non addictive are full of shit.

Oh my god. That would drive me (no pun intended) fucking nuts!!!!!!
I like tattoos, I have one, but I'm super picky. I will not get just anything. I had wanted one since I was 17, got my first at 30. It's a tattoos sisters and I all got together and represents the 3 of us. Totally love it. Been thinking about what the next one will be ever since.
I think if people stopped abusing parking placards from their family members, such as when the card holder is long deceased or not with them for that errand/trip, good people who need them like ABColeSlaw could get one. I think the issuing authority/idea as a whole don't do a thing to ensure compliance once they issue the permit. That's wrong.
It’s not that I don’t like you, it’s that I don’t know you. Stranger Danger.

Well I know this is going to be incredibly unpopular, and likely very naive on my part...but I think the parking spaces for expectant mothers and mothers with children are ridiculous.
Being pregnant is not a handicap. I understand that as pregnancy wears on we become more uncomfortable, but the vast majority of us do not need special privileges. We are not special snowflakes just because we are carrying a child. Of course special circumstances in individual pregnancies may deem a reliably close parking spot necessary, but if it is truly that bad perhaps you should ask your doctor for a temporary handicap parking tag so that you may park in ANY designated close space in any parking lot. Really most of us would do better with taking a few extra steps every day.
As for the spots designated for mothers with children...really? I mean, I understand it is more convenient to be closer to the store entrance, but again having children is not a handicap. You (the collective you) are not more important and speshul than someone who has chosen to be child free. Your LO will not melt if he gets a raindrop on his head, or has to be out in the summer heat for an extra 30 seconds.
Really what it boils down to is a marketing ploy. It's not exactly enforcable...don't know why my panties get in such a twist about it. Also, FTM here, and I reserve the right to change my mind on the second point. Mostly kidding.
That's all I really have to say about that.
At 5 days PP with a 5 day old I might as well have been handicapped. I had never been so excited that that spot at BRU was open in an incredibly full parking lot.

I do agree with you on it's not exclusive to old people. On my way home from work (freeway) I saw a couple cars merging on, the car in front FOR NO REASON hit there brakes causing traffic to all have to hit there brakes and in the mix of this a car got ran over by a large diesal truck who, of course, had absolutely no time to stop. The driver in the ran over car died. I seriously witnessed it and have been really upset about the whole ordeal. That could happen to anyone because we can't control who drives around us. And also, the driver of the car who stopped was maybe 40? And claims she got scared so she hit her brakes.... Ummmm scared of what?!?!

Do you have an old navy/gap/banana republic card? They routinely have 30-40% off for card holders at ON (even 50% off at gap) and you earn 5% back in rewards (and they'll do double and triple rewards for entire month some times-- from 1 Christmas shopping trip, I earned $30 in rewards). I get their emails, and when there's a good coupon online, I'll go through their sale and clearance stuff, or else I'll wait and combine the in-store coupons (like the 30 or 40% off) with clearance and sale items. I never even look if it's not on sale/clearance AND I have a coupon to use with it.
If you don't have a card...there are still online sales, but cardholders get Bette deals. And, like I said, I NEVER sign up for store cards!

I think it's totally fine to wait until after the child is born to announce his/her name, and I get not wanting people to comment about your selection or try to get you to change it. I just think it would be nicer if the parents responded with "we are still kicking a couple choices around" or something. I took the time to inquire about your growing family, and "we're not telling" kind of feels like a snub to me---I was just trying to be polite and interested, people!
is this ok?

ETA: Aaaaahahaha, you said "every 3-5 years". I read it as "after 35 years". So does that make some sort of argument about aging and eye sight/comprehension?

This is my new favorite picture. Also, my father in law says stuff like this. "Oops, I'm driving almost at the speed limit. Time to slow down and get in the left lane so I don't get in the way of anyone trying to enter or exit the highway." Driving with him raises my blood pressure about 100 points.
My UO is yet to be determined. I had one this morning and forgot it.
I've had decent luck at Kohls too. And yesterday I found a 4 piece on set (Carter's!) at Sears for $10!!
I like to say "Happy Festivus"
My sister sometimes says Merry Christmahanakwanzica.

Don't lie... You meant it as a pun.
If you don't have a card...there are still online sales, but cardholders get Bette deals. And, like I said, I NEVER sign up for store cards!
