Pregnant after IF

When did you or will you announce?

I am really trying to figure out when I want to announce to the rest of my friends, family, and coworkers and am having a difficult time deciding when I feel comfortable.  I will be 10 weeks on Sunday and we have our next u/s this Friday.  I always planned to wait until the 2nd trimester but to be honest it is kind of killing me and I would really love to start telling people after our appt and wait until the 2nd tri for facebook.  After all of these years I just want to share the news but I'm still extremely nervous too.

So just seeing what the popular consensus was on this although I know all individuals are different.

Re: When did you or will you announce?

  • I'm really excited about telling too! DH and I originally discussed that we wouldn't tell anyone until 12 weeks. However, I know our parents are going to be over the top excited about their first grandbaby...so I've been thinking about telling them sooner. I'm waiting to talk to the RE at my 7 week u/s to see how things look.
Whatever we decide about telling parents, we are not telling anyone else until the 2nd tri...extended family included.

  • I am 7w0d today, we are telling our parents this weekend.  My family in particular needs good news - last September, my nephew was diagnosed with leukemia, and just 2 and a half weeks later my Mom was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer.  So we're telling them a wee bit sooner than we would otherwise.  I'm being laid off (along with 50 of my coworkers) as of 28 Feb, so we're probably having a party on 1 March (13w3d) and we'll probably tell our friends then.  We will go Facebook-official on 15 March since that's the Jewish holiday of Purim and we'll have costumes that reveal the news.  We may tell one or two close friends before the rest.  But I am nervous about telling people before we have a CVS and get the results.

  • I waited until our NT scan. If we had a bad scan and needed further testing I wouldn't want to have to deal with bad news and people knowing or asking about the pregnancy.
  • Im 7w0d today... DH and I decided on waiting until im at 12 weeks. IF takes such a toll on emotionally and in our case its easier to keep family and friends out of the loop because their added questions (even tho they may mean well) will cause more stress on us esp me at a time where im trying to stay calm.

  • Honestly going through all the treatments it was better for me to talk to my friends, family, and coworkers about what we were doing at the time. I received soo much support.   Also I needed coverage at work to go to most of my appts as they were out of town.  Soo everyone knew we were doing IVF and everyone basically that I talk to found out we were pregnant right away!  I loved the support and excitement.  Don't get me wrong I was really worried that we would miscarry again and I voiced my concerns to people and asked them if they were going to buy anything to please wait.

Soo like you said everyone is completely different.  Do it when you are comfortable!

  • We told close family and close friends immediately. Told Grandparents at 12 weeks (b/c it was Thanksgiving). Waited until NT scan results at 15 weeks to tell my boss. Then at 16 weeks started sharing with coworkers, extended family and the rest of my friends. We never did a FB announcement but at some point I am sure a pic or status will reference pregnancy or baby.

  • We are actually doing our FB announcement today and I still don't know exactly how!  We wanted to wait until I got my Mat21 results back and my OB's office called yesterday to tell me we are having a normal boy!  After two losses, I didn't feel comfortable until I knew we weren't dealing with any chromosomal issues, even though our NT scan looked great last week.

Our families knew were were going through IVF (and about our losses), so they were told right away along with a couple of very close friends.  We told another group (other close friends, extended family) after the NT scan.  As of today we're going totally public.

  • I told different people at different times.  My immediate family knew right away.  My boss knew at 7 weeks since I was way sick and I wanted to give him the head's up that I might be coming in late some days.  I told close friends around 12-13 weeks (probably after the DNA test results came back).  I *just* made a FB announcement like a couple weeks ago (I'm around 28 weeks now).
  • We told our parents and close friends that knew we did IVF right away. We will probably officially announce it after our NT scan at the beginning of February.

  • I'm planning to announce on FB a week from today after the NT scan. I've already got it planned out what I'm going to say. It will include that he/she came to us through embryo adoption, a bit about what EA is, and also a nod to those still fighting. I also am going to encourage people to ask me about embryo adoption. Anyone who has an issue with how our baby came to us can talk to me about it now, get used to it now, or not be in our lives. But I have a feeling everyone will be overjoyed. :) that's my hope at least!

  • We told everyone nearly immediately.  I told them it was still very early, and I would appreciate their prayers for the babies and us, but that we were super excited to share the news.  I'm a very open person, and I think I would've needed the support if something were to have happened.  Of course, I work for myself - so I didn't have to deal with all the drama of when to tell a boss and prepare for leave, etc.  I'm sure that complicates things.

  • Wow you all are strong at holding out. We have already told immediate fam and the few close friends who knew we were doing IVF but I think we may tell the rest of my fam this week and slowly start telling friends. We are waiting until 14 weeks to announce on fb. It is such a hard decision.

    After 4+ years TTC

    FET #2 = DS Madden Jeffery <3 July 29, 2014 <3
  • I am 12 weeks and the plan was to announce at 12 weeks, but we have decided to wait. Last Monday, I was diagnosed with the flu and Wednesday I started to bleed (bright red blood). I was hysterical as I thought for sure I was having a miscarriage. I went in to the Dr. immediately and all was well with baby. It seems that a small piece of tissue from my placenta was hanging low and I have not sense had any bleeding.

This made me decide to wait to announce to the world. I have told a few people, but still am nervous, especially considering last week a close family member lost her baby at 4 months and this week a friend of a friend lost her baby at 19 weeks. OMG!!!

I know I cannot compare myself to others, but I am so afraid of something happening after I have announced. The friend of a friend who was 19 weeks had just announced on FB and to all her friends and family.

The sad thing about IF and IVF and the entire process is that the worrying seems to never end. One of the nurses at my RE said that welcome to being a mom because it continues once the child is here!

    Wishing you all healthy babies!
