How long did you work?

I'm curious how long people were able to stick it out at work, particularly those of you who didn't have to go on bedrest.  I know this is really going to vary, particularly based on how active your job is but I'm determined to make it to 37.5 weeks b/c it puts me to a convenient transition time and I need to hear it's possible!

Re: How long did you work?

  • My water broke at work at 34w. I started WFH 2x a week starting at 32w bc my commute was brutal. I have a desk job.

I'm an attorney with most of my time spent at a desk but I have the occasional court appearance. I only worked about 30 hours a week for most of my pregnancy (a reduction caused by financial issues at my firm not my health). I worked until 37 weeks, 5 days. My c-section was the next morning.

  • Full time desk job, was done at 34 weeks!

  • I am 34 weeks today and am still working! I did make the transition to working from home last week and next week will be my last official week as I want a week off before the twins arrive just to get a few last minute things done and rest up. I am having a c-section at 36 weeks 1 day.

Here is the deal, though. I'm so absolutely miserable that I want to scream almost all day while working. Even though I am at home, I still have so much work to do and all I can think about is how awful I feel. I cannot get comfy for more than 5 mins doing anything. Sitting for long periods of time is torture. When I was still in the office, I spent more time walking and going to the bathroom than I did working(slight exaggeration). About every 45 mins I needed to pee. Meetings would run long and my bladder would almost explode! Ugh! That alone was making me crazy.

So, you can do it, it's just pretty miserable the last month or so. I hope you aren't as uncomfortable as I've been. :)
  • I worked up until my water broke at 35W 5D.  I work in sales but its mostly a desk job.  I honestly didnt feel too terrible at work but once I got home I felt like crap towards the end.

  • 30 weeks , I felt awful and needed to nap constantly. I have heard many women make it until the end though, just listen to your body and take it 1 day at a time.

  • I'm an attorney. Was working full time until this year. Switched to 4 days/week starting on the 1st. I'm in court and on my feet about 2/week - I feel it those days. I'm 23 weeks. My doctor will sign me out as early as 34 weeks assuming no problems. I'm planning to leave between 34-35 weeks, but I"m already having cervical shortening and contractions so I wouldn't be surprised if I go into labor earlier. Latest I'll deliver is 38 weeks. I worked until 39 with my DD (singleton). I'm planning to have my work pretty much ready as if I were leaving by 30 weeks though, JIC - and am not taking on new work/cases, just working on the ones I already have and getting them ready for transition if they won't be complete by the time my leave starts.

  • I'll be 36 weeks tomorrow and am still working. I work for an orthopedic surgeon, so do a lot of walking to get get patients and then a lot of sitting at a computer. I've worked from home for a few hours a week starting last week and will probably be done after next week. My csection is scheduled for 38 weeks.

  • I was put on MBR a little before 26w (they pulled me off exercise and anything other than desk-work and being a couch potato at 22w due to 24-7 BH contractions) -- and I worked from home until I landed in the hospital at 28w5d due to pPROM.

  • I work a (mostly) desk job 30 hours per week and made it to 24wks before being put on MBR. After that I did what work I could from home (yay for laptops) till 37wks when I had the boys.

  • Full time desk job worked till 36 weeks. I would have worked longer but I developed pre-eclampsia.  I delivered at 38 weeks.
Echoing pp the 2 weeks in between work and delivery was loooooooong (can't imagine 5 weeks!) I wasn't on bedrest but was told to take it easy.  I actually looked forward to my OB appointments that were every 3 days so I could get out of the house lol.

  • Thanks ladies, I know there's no guarantee but it really helps to hear others made it that long.  I'm a principal and my transition plan isn't complete so the idea of leaving is really hard for me.  I love what I do and definitely can't do it from home.  I'm starting to get tired by the end of the day but other than some back pain I feel pretty good at work, hopefully it stays that way!
  • Full time desk job, and I went out at 37 weeks (delivered at 38 and 4). I could've worked longer, but at that point it wasn't worth it with a 30 minute commute and how uncomfortable I was getting. No way I could've worked longer than 38 weeks, but 37.5 is definitely doable so long as you don't have any complications.

  • I'm an RN that works 12 hour shifts in a busy ER. I worked up until the day before my scheduled c/s at 36w1d. If I didn't have a c/s scheduled I would have continued working, I work with some amazing nurses that would do stuff for me they knew I just couldn't do. Just listen to your body you will know if you are over doing it.

  • I worked as an SLP in a school system… had my own office, did some sitting, some walking to get kids from their classes.  I worked until 30w1d and delivered at 30w3d.  I had planned to work much longer… my kids had other plans (c:

  • This gives me hope. I really want to work for as long as I can. I love my job. Everything is basically done at the house and I can't imagine just sitting here all day.

  • I'm a teacher. 31 weeks tomorrow. I'm planning to work as long as possible, but it's tiring especially because my classroom is on the thurs floor and my homeroom has 31 very energetic 6th graders.
  • I'm a nurse but I was working as a high school healthcare teacher at the time. I stopped working at 33 weeks. It was my decision and my doctor supported me. He would have let me work up until the end I think. I ended up delivering at 37w1d.
  • I was induced at 38 w, which was a Monday night into Tuesday.
I worked right up to the Thursday into Friday before that. In total I took off two day my entire pregnancy. Once because my blasted car died and then the day before I was induced (Sunday into Monday. I work 3rd shift)
