Pump for two days ? To heal

Hey ladies,
I have been EBF for 8 weeks now I've had severe nipple damage to my left side from the beginning, I've been working with two LCs and since he's gotten a bit bigger things are definitely improving his latch is the best it can be, nipple shields r out of the question because I have the right size but he sucks my nipple all the way to the end and that does more damage, I've been using APNO and the damage is very slowly improving, by damage I mean like chunk of nipple missing not just a crack , I was told by my LC to rest that side for 48 hours and just pump which I am completely open too except I'm worried about decreasing supply in that breast. I have a good supply now he's gaining weight really well I don't wanna mess it up the LC said it wouldn't hurt supply but when I've tried to pump before with a hospital grade pump I only get about an ounce each time, so I'm worried I won't be removing a lot of milk and therefore decrease my supply but I really want this nipple to heal! Any words of advice or people that have experienced something similar ?

  • I've been there and it was rough! I had trouble healing until I finally took almost a full two days off and only pumped that side and then it was a lot better. You could always try to pump the injured side while nursing on the other side. What helped me the most was letting it get some air and taking enough time off for it to do some healing. Then when it was better I worked really hard on a good latch until we got it down. You will want to let it heal before your baby hits a growth spurt. Also, once it is healed you will be able to let the baby spend longer times nursing on that side to help increase your supply. Hang in there! It will get easier.
